View Full Version : Under Door Carpet

I am getting ready to install the under door aluminum and carpet, and have a question about the under-door aluminum carpet pieces. I have included a link to a photo of the pieces from the kit.

http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp83232%3Euqcshlukaxroqdfv7%3C35%3Dot% 3E23%3A9%3D%3A8%3C%3D%3B23%3DXROQDF%3E2%3A%3B8752% 3A48246ot1lsi

I am assuming these are in fact the correct pieces. The piece on the left seems to fit for the driver side, piece on the right for passenger. It also appears that the carpet pieces were not fully separated when cut at FFR, as there are some partial cuts on the "tail" pieces on these (I have completed the cut one part of the one on the left already), and clearly the pieces cannot be installed as they are now without major trimming. I am thinking I need to cut into multiple segments to get them to fit completely. I am curious if someone can explain a bit about fitting all the pieces?

I am also considering making my own pieces and including the piece of carpet already installed vertically under the door so I can have one continuous piece up the short wall and around and over the under-door aluminum. That will only work if I have enough carpet left over from the trunk, which I have not checked yet. If that will not work, I will need to better understand how to use what came with the kit.

Thanks for any comments.

I'll try to explain and illustrate for you Dan.

The piece on the right is actually for the driver's side. There are no unfinished cuts; it remains all one piece. Fold the carpet 90 degrees along that yellow line. Section "A" gets applied horizontally along the ~2" wide surface under the door. Section "B" gets applied vertically to the backside of the body under the door opening. When you do this the two edges identified with the orange lines will meet and make a 90 degree intersection. The tab at the front turns inward and folds so that it lays on the 2X2 square tube in front of the door. When you do this the two blue edges will meet and also make a 90 degree intersection. The edge marked with green meets the rear bulkhead carpet behind the door. Hope this makes some sense. I think if you take your piece and fold it then put it into position it will start to become clear.

Good luck!

Jeff

Jeff,

Obviously I needed more info than I thought :-)!. As always your info is very clear. I will take a look at this tomorrow and see how that works. I may still make my own, but at least now I know how this is intended to work. I clearly had not "seen" the intent.

Thanks.
