I did my first drive this morning. She is just in gel-coat. I am going to keep it that was for a couple months as I owe my wife a few house projects. I am one week short of the 2 year point.

What a great feeling. I went a block to the gas station, and a guy asked me if he could take a picture. The next block I got asked if it was a real one. So I guess I am right on track.

The steering felt firm and smooth. I have power with the spring mod. It is sensitive, but didn't feel twitchy. I did a few laps around the area, then did a leak check. I did a run up on the local expressway. When I came back it sounds like I blew an exhaaust gasket. I hope that is all it is. I used the FFR gaskets. I am going to try the copper seal with no gaskets now.

Congrats! Looks nice even in the gel coat. A great feeling of nervousness and excitement.

More pic's and some details on your build.

What color have you decided?

Enjoy!

Looks fantastic!
So I assume the gel coat must be pretty good on its own?
What engine did you go for?

Nicely done! I'm sure it's a great feeling. I read the "Introduction" post when I first bought my Cobra. It's very true and enlightening. As you already found out, many people will approach you, try to race you etc. They are great cars and wonderful to own.

The next block I got asked if it was a real one.

Of course it is a real one! You built it with your own hands! It is not a mirage or a holographic projection. It is a real one. Congratulations! Two years to build . . . hmmm . . . that pretty much what I am planning. A three year plan: one to plan the build, two to execute it.

Awesome job. Welcome to the .1% of Americans who have built their own car.

Regarding the exhaust. Everybody has bugs to work out. There will be tuning, and adjustments to be made. It's just part of the build process. Keeping the car in gel coat is a great plan as it makes the tuning process much easier. No shiny paint to ruin while you wrench. It's nice to finish up the car and have it perfectly to your liking before you go to paint.

Great job on the build.

That MKIV takes gelcoating to another level. I'm sure you are going to have a great time shaking the bugs out while you enjoy driving before paint.

Good luck,

WEK.
