It's a common issue, has been happening more as they get older. Nothing major, worst case it snaps off and you have a very slop or inoperable clutch pedal.

Sounds like clutchless shifting. :)
How easy is it to check when you are buying the donor from someone and the car is still running and used every day by the person?

Back in the good old days (1966) I had an Impala and the pivot ball on the block for the bell crank sheared off. I drove for a few days without a clutch. Lots of torque in that 348 to start up.

Frank, it's pretty far up underneath the dash, so I don't know if you could do a proper inspection with it in place. Maybe. But it might just be easier to fix it once you have it out.

Yeah just throw a bead on it with the pedal box out.
Just something to watch for before it's up under the dash and mixed with wiring etc.
