Has anyone here eliminated their kit headlight switch for a roadster/race car style toggle switch setup? If you have, can you share what wires you wired to each toggle?
I am assuming one for the headlights and one for the parking lights. I do not care about the gauge dimming feature,
Thanks.

Hi MacZter,
I can't quite make out the jpg totally, but here is what I did. Richard Oben (North's Race Cars) and others recommend running your headlights through a relay for the brightest light possible (eliminates any power degradation through the switch). So, I wired up the headlight power feed and parking lights through a relay. Controlled the relay with a toggle. I did not separate out the headlights and parking lights. When I throw the switch, everything comes on. You could add another relay to feed just the parking lights, and add another toggle for that if you wanted. Then, a second relay power is fed by the first relay "big" power, and a toggle controls that relay for low and high beams.
So, I throw one toggle, all lights come on. The second toggle flips up for high beam, down for low beam.
Let me know if you need more detail.

I went the 2 toggle switch route as well, but with a bit of a twist from the above. Running lights and gauge lights are on 1 toggle. Then a second 3 position toggle for the headlights (high beam - off - low beam). The 3 position I have in easy reach from the steering wheel. The other is under the dash to keep it as clean as possible.

OK, let me see if I can clarify the help I need. I am what you might call wiring stupid, some of the logic just does not make sense. I have even blew up my diagram onto a posterboard to help me.
I need to know what wires from the headlight switch connector I should wire to what toggle. For my bright lights, I have an Iditit switch on my tilt arm, gray that will need to be added into this mix as well, I do not want the dimmer on a toggle. So just 3 toggles; headlights, parking lights and courtesty lights.
The colors and where they go are as follows:
Red Headlight SW 2 Feed > to the fuse panel
Red Headlight SW 1 Feed > to the ignition switch
Brown Courtesy light > courtesy light
Tan Rt Tail light feed > tan Rt Tail Light feed on rear harness
Tan Rt Parking light feed > Tan Rt Parking light feed on front harness
Lt Blue Headlight SW Dim Sw > Lt Blue Headlight SW Dim Sw on Dash Harness
White dash light > white dash lights on front harness
Gray wire coming from the dimmer switch on my column (Iditit).
Using this, and the attached diagram, can any of you electric gurus tell me which color wires to wire to what toggle and what position on the toggle.
Thanks.

Has anyone completely foregone the light switches entirely, so that everytime the car is started, all lights come on? What are the pros and cons of this design? Being a motorcycle rider, I am a big fan of "always on" "annoyingly bright" lighting.
Thanks.

I used the two Lucas headlight toggle switches from **********. One to turn the headlights on and the second one as the dimmer switch. The switches come with a wiring diagram.
I used a separate Lucas dimmer switch for the panel lights. It is a panel dimmer switch from an early MGB. Works great and looks "original"

Too hard for me to type it all up! PM me your phone number and good times to call. I would be happy to tell you what I know.
