UPDATED 6/21/16 - Today's TTT is a simple how-to from a couple years ago showing how to make brackets / clamps for your fresh air ducts.

Original post follows.....

I fab'd up some band clamps to hold the fresh air duct hoses in place. I wanted something simple and similar to the clamps used on the original cars. I used some 1/2" x 1/16" aluminum stock from the local hardware store, and just bent it in a vice at one end, then curved it around the chuck on my drill press - which was the same diameter as the hose I'm using. I drilled two holes in the backstrap to attach it to the chassis (on the "F" panel and on the additional panel I made that looks like a backward "F" panel to close-in the radiator sides.

These pics don't show the holes, but there is now one hole directly behind the hose - which will get a rivet to the aluminum panel - and two holes that align at the end of both tabs - which will get a sheet metal screw to apply tension and hold the hose in place.

Looks much nicer than the cable ties that I used!

Chris,

Did the same but bought some long polished stainless steel band clamps from Lowes/HD in the department where they sell vent hoses. Cut off the ends and just used the straps the same way you did. Only trouble was drilling through the stainless steel.

Today's TTT on an old how-to shows how to make clamps for your fresh air duct hoses out of flat aluminum stock that can be found at just about any hardware store.

Here's one additional pic that I took a couple years ago showing the two clamps on the passenger side hose.....

Chris,

Gotta say, these occasional TTT threads are fantastic! Great reminders of some really good mods.

Well done!

Another option. Actual aircraft clamps in 3" aluminum. Available at Aircraft Spruce for less than $2 each.

Yeah, but those are "store bought" and we all know that it's waaaaaay more cool to make stuff ourselves.

Absolutely agree. Just trying to help those lacking fab skills.
