Is there a good method for sizing an oil cooler?

I will be running a 331 motor for mostly road racing. Already have a RR pan, and the car is a tough old open track veteran. Just a new motor. Also, which adapter - thermostatic or full-time flow?

Hi,

As long as you have a 7+ qt capacity pan, and run full synthetic motor oil, you should be ok without a oil cooler. If your planning to race it in a warmer climate, like TX or AZ, than a oil cooler like the one that we have would be recommended. To size a oil cooler you would need to know information like operating oil temp, target oil temp, oil cooler efficiency, engine size, etc. to determine if you need one and how large it might need to be.

Thank You
