Factoring in everything it takes to start the first bolt to finishing the car and having it roll out of the garage under its own power...what is the average build time on the MK4?

It took us almost exactly one year, but that's a family working together. I would guess anywhere from a year to two years would be the norm if you have a decent set of tools, knowledge and some free time. Other things always manage to get in the way though. Some builds take longer than others, but it's a lot of fun so don't feel rushed.

I took 3 years to get my MK II on the road but I would say a total of 7 years to call it complete. Of course you'll find that life, i.e. Health, family, etc will dictate how long it takes.

I have built many roadsters. Probably 35 so far. I can do a car in 200-220 hours minus body work and paint. A first time builder should be able to do a basic build in a bout 300 hours. Every change and every option adds time though. Remebmer, FFR has been making these kits a long time. With a few exceptions, they pretty much just go together.

I would say 250-300 hours for a first time build with few if any modifications. Depending on how you allocate your time about 35 8hour Saturdays.

Not sure about the hours. Working only weekends, the Kit arrived Sept 12th 2000 on the road Jan 4th 2001. Gordon did all the body work and paint.

Mine took 11 months to complete minus the paint and body work. I worked on my car after work 2-3 hrs a day and 9-12 hrs on the weekend. I would recommend taking your time enjoy the build. The best advice I would give is to 1. have a written plan/budget 2. Ensure you have all the tools you think you might need. 3. Stick to your written plan/budget. It's an awesome feeling firing up your car that you built and driving it on the road. What a Rush!!!

The Mark IV was 5 months. Building only on Mondays for 8 hours. So 200 hours with lots of options. A consistent five day, 8 hour build would have taken 6 weeks. The paint shop had the body for 5 months to coincide with the end of the build.
