View Full Version : Rear Axle Modification
In looking at moving my battery from it's designed location, I'd like to put it in the trunk, but without taking up all of the limited space. I'd like to sink it into the middle of the upper trunk area, but this mounting boss/bracket on the top of the differential is kinda "in the way". Can I cut it off without causing problems? I've seen a number of different external configurations of differentials, but I can't find anything describing this mounting bracket.
Thanks.

Cut away, not needed.

Data,
You may find, if you cut too close to the base of that "boss", that it is hollow and cutting debris will fall into the differential unit and need to be cleaned out. You will also have to close the resulting opening into the diff unit! Unfortunately I speak from experience.

Data, If you do move your battery, let me know if you are interested in a fiberglass glove box to take advantage of the space you will now have behind the seats. See my build thread for pics. ERIC
