Picked up our kit today and took a tour of Factory Five. Got it loaded and got on the road back to MI.

A few days ago my brother and I tried to heat the garage so we didn't have to build in the cold..

What did you burn up? Is this chassis #93 ?

Blitzkrieg
12-17-2013, 10:00 PM
Yes, and our military diesel heater caught fire when the exhaust pipe melted. Almost burned down the house. But luckily my dad caught it and got the jerry can of the back of it. So we pulled it out into the courtyard and let it burn till it put it self out.

I'm confused. You said you picked up your 818 today and then said the garage burned a few days ago. The 818 was not burned up, right? Please tell us your #93 is okay. Please don't say it was in the fire.

Blitzkrieg
12-18-2013, 10:55 PM
Ahah we got the kit two days after the "fire". The garage is ok thankfully.

We got home today and unpacked the boxes. Frame is still on trailer, it got really dirty on the drive home.
Main thing that is on backorder is upper ball joints. Might slow down the build.

Whew. 818 and garage are okay. I found that if you are cramped on space some boxes can be consolidated, but list what's in what box. You'll find lots to do while waiting for back ordered parts. You don't have to follow the manual in strict order. I'm glad the 818 didn't burn!

Well the boxes are in the living room... A lot of paper. We just got the car in the garage, will post pics soon.

Upper ball joint is easy

They are 79-82 Chrysler New Yorker ball joints, Moog PN K772.

I can't get the long bolt that goes through the back lower links off. Any ideas? And I got the nut off.

Mechie3
12-20-2013, 08:59 AM
They tend to rust to the sleeve inside the bushing of the link. When I first changed bushings on my WRX I had to cut the bolt off and press out the bushings. No way it was ever coming off the bushing.

I tryed heat and impact wrench and all that. I broke a breaker bar... Might try to fine a long pipe. How hard is it to install new bushings?

Just broke my other breaker bar lol...

Nice propane heater Bob, looks like my 45000 btu heater!

Mechie3
12-20-2013, 11:41 AM
Don't mock Bob's heater! (I think I have the same one, lol).

If you get 2 piece bushings they install easily. Factory ones need a press.

Blitzkrieg
12-20-2013, 11:47 AM
My heater puts out 100,000btu's. But when we got out there the 10' flames made it a lot warmer.

Any other ideas? I can cut the bolt but don't know how its going to help.

I used an air chisel with a narrow bit and pushed it out. The vibration freed it up.

We got our donor from 818 Donors and are supposed to have upgraded adjustable lateral links and new bushings and we don't. So are now plan is the cut the bolt off and try to get it out. Then replace the lateral links.

So far the front aluminum is in. Just waiting on the rear suspension. Might put the engine in.

Got one seat installed. It fits good so going to order another. Wasn't to hard to make mounts and it gives more room.31430

I don't know if your floor is on, but let's assume it is, would you need it to be off in order to make the seat installation easier or floor on or off won't make a diff?

It wouldn't make much of a difference. I used 3/8-2" flat steel and bolted the seats to that then that to the frame with enough off set so the bolts they supply work. You can get a wrench on them pretty easy. For the back there is room to fit a socket down and do it that way. For the harness I drilled and tapped the 3/8 steel and bolted the side and sub belts to it with the hardware the provided. Now I'm sure this is not what most people would do, they would what it strait to the frame but this way I can take it out all in one unit. If the seat did break off the flat steel would still be bolted to the frame. I don't plan on doing and real racing, but the seats look better with harnesses and the car is safer overall with no top. I can post some pictures of how I did the mounts if you want.

No I didn't. I don't think there is any room to slide anyways, inless you got the cross bar out.

Once I figured it out it they weren't to hard to make if you have the tools. And the way the bolts on the seats sit you have to angle the brackets a little bit.

Blitzkrieg
07-17-2014, 10:37 AM
Here are some more 3144431445 the back one has to be longer for the mounting point and it has to have that little angle on it for the welds but its made up for where the seat mounts the the bar.
