SA is a biiig place, spread out over hundreds of square miles. What part of the city (or more likely outlying community) is the job?

Being from upstate NY myself and now living in the DFW area, I will tell you that TX is like a different country compared to NY.

Better or worse? Probably depends on your personality, culture and upbringing. As far as taxes go for my county, my property taxes are less than my parents house even with mine being assessed at a higher value. No state income tax in TX. It has been my observation that Texans are much more conservative, very republican (not tea party republican) and more openly religious than new yorkers. The state is much more business friendly with their laws than NY, especially when it comes to the energy sector and environmental protection. San Antonio has a couple of big military bases, so the town seems to have a lot of focus towards towards military needs and issues. Whites are a minority but still have most of the "power"in Texas (high paying jobs, political offices, etc..). And it is brutally hot in the summer time. I liken the heat in the summer to the cold in the upstate winters.

You can use a tool like http://swz.salary.com/CostOfLivingWizard/layouthtmls/coll_metrodetail_153.html#moving to compare the cost of living. We found house prices here cheaper than Austin. Lots of stuff to do with the kids, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, zoo, etc. As stated before no state income tax. 8.25% sales tax and the summer heat is REALLY taxing.
