After what has been a fantastic and extremely satisfying journey that started when I ordered my MK4 in Jan 2011, I can now join the few that can say they built their own Factory Five. She is finally complete and is quite the looker!:o

Thanks Dave Smith and the FFR team for designing and creating a masterful machine that drives like nothing else on the road.

As well thanks to fellow members on the forum for providing guidance and suggestions through the build process (build school provided many helpful tips and I highly recommend attending for those on the fence).

The journey continues - Pic's attached

Great job! I like the color combo and the Coyote engine looks nice. What are the side emblems? Can you post close-ups of them?

Carrying the stripes to the underside of the hood and trunk is a very nice touch.

Great Job! I noticed the plaque near the side vent. Is that an anniversary car?

Thanks for the comments and feedback - much appreciated.

Sethmark - As for the color - I wanted a show finish so there are more coats of primer-base-clear than a traditional paint job (I think?? - at least my wallet is telling me so) - still needs to be cut & buffed - winter project - regardless the finish is very good as you can see my reflection is a number of the photos. I went through hundreds of roadster pictures to find a color that I really liked (I liked them all) - it was down a light gray/silver or a metallic blue (was on the fence between a dark blue (traditional) or lighter metallic blue (unique personalized color). I also really like red but my insurance broker tells me that red cars get the most speeding tickets so red was out. I took a picture to my painter and asked him to match it - which was not too difficult. He matched the color and then I went through thousands of color chips to find the exact color that I was really looking for - a more unique color - I wanted something similar the late 60's vet's but something more. He painted 2 panels with each of the colors and I wanted a Wimbledon white stripe. As there are too many shades of Wimbledon white, he chose an appropriate match. After reviewing the panel with the 2 colors of blue separated by the white stripe - I went with the unique color of blue that I chose from the many color chips. My painter did not agree with my choice but after seeing it complete he now agrees it was the better choice. Color is a personal choice and no 2 roadsters are the same color even if they use the same paint. I suggest going through the same process to personalize your choice and find the color that speaks to you.

Cobradave / David Hodgkins: re the side emblems - I will leave this up to the imagination - I am trying to find a proper set of Ford Racing side emblems - suggestions welcome

Very nice job! A real traditional type of build, but then you threw in some things to personalize it further. To me, that is one of the big attractions of these builds.

Question: is that the kit-supplied hood hinge set-up? They look different. The added struts are quickly apparent, but those hinges I'm not sure about.

Best I can tell from the pictures, the hood hinges and gas struts are the standard FFR setup. Changed a bit between Mk3 and Mk4, but that's what they look like. Also, FYI, the internal trunk hinges shown are also now factory standard. Previous versions used external hinges.

Absolutely beautiful build BTW. I'm not a blue guy, but that's a really great looking color. Congratulations!

Thx for the comments - much appreciated. Fantastic project - I think half the fun is the decisions that are needed throughout the build and finally seeing the completed product. This time is so well spent - FFR members understand.

Aks801 - hood hinges & struts are standard with the mk4. Trunk hinges are also standard but I added hidden trunk struts. I have many hidden upgrades on this build. I powder coated all raw steel and aluminum parts and panels in silver to look like polished aluminum (or close to it - trunk photo the aluminum is powder coated). The silver hinges etc work well with the paint - this was by accident as I only recently finalized the decision on the body color.

I was originally going the used Mustang route but my wife convinced me otherwise (only need to ask me once) she said "if you are going to build this car, build it the way you really want so you won't have to be re-build it later" - sooo - she gets the credit. This was not the least expensive build (don't ask) but the car is built the way I wanted and it exceeds my expectations (that's hard to do). My wife was no so hot on the car in gel coat but absolutely loves! the car now - she couldn't wait to get in and show her friends.

One additional comment: Sunday was the first time driving the final completed car. I must say the car now actually drives even better that when in gel coat (~2500mi in gel coat). Perhaps it is the undercoat, door seals, turned down side pipes, all trim plates tightened etc., etc., the car is tighter - not sure what it is but the car actually drives better - absolutely fantastic - good thing the heater works. Can't wait for the summer. I plan to drive to the FFR factory for a road trip in the spring for a tour of the facilities and scope my next project.
