Hopefully a simple question: How do I get a photo included in my posts? Thanks.

Basically two ways: (1) While making a post, click the icon in the tool bar labelled "Insert an image." You will be prompted to enter the location of your picture file and it will be uploaded to the site. Or, (2) Upload your photos to another website, e.g. PhotoBucket, and then include the link (URL) in your post. Don't know how computer savvy you are. This might be enough info. Of you may need more detailed instructions. Just let us know.

Option #1 can be a little limiting because typically sites have a quota to the individual file size (picture resolution) and a total of how much you can upload. Option #2 has limits too, especially if you only take the free account option. But normally much more than what is available on the forum site, plus in my opinion the process is easier. I use option #2 and it's quite painless. I upload to PhotoBucket straight out of my camera, and it's really easy to link into forum posts.

Option #3: Store your photos in a file folder on your computer.

After entering text, scroll down to "Managing Attachments". Click on it, select Browse, navigate to the pic in your file folder, click Enter twice (or Save), Click on Upload, wait until picture name shows up. You can attach up to 5 pics per post this way...hit Browse again, etc. I find it helps to Rename the pics filename to reflect what they are showing. Not the sexiest way to post pics, but it works.

Ultimately that's doing the same thing as what I described as option 1, just a different path. In either case, picture files are being uploaded from your personal storage (PC or whatever) to the forum servers. This method will have limits, as described.

Examples:

Option 1 or 3: Pictures of my Mk3 uploaded from my PC:
2402924030
Note these examples were entered using Option 1 "Attach image." Option 3 puts them in a "Downloaded image" box. Basically the same thing. They're stored on the forum.

Option 2: Same pictures from Photobucket, stored in the forum as only the thumbnail link. Clicking the thumbnail opens the picture in Photobucket.

Or from Photobucket as the picture link:

There are other photo hosting sites that work similar to this. This just happens to be one used a lot on the other forum, and I've gotten used to it.

Edward, I can't figure out how to use the Insert Image icon to download from my PC; it calls for a url. How do I make it go to my PC to get pics. I would rather do that.

EDIT: Never mind, figured it out. Its the FFCars forum that I'm having the issue with.

Thanks for all the info. I have tried the insert an image in the past, and apparently files are too large because they will not load. I have also put in links to my build website but that is not always the easiest for others to look at a single picture - those usually go to an album so then it is a process to find the photo I refer to. I will have to try the photobucket or similar option. Too bad it can't be as simple as Copy/Paste. Thanks again.
Hope to have completed car photos in the next couple months - in a holding pattern waiting for final painting.

Actually with Photobucket it kind of is. You just drag the pictures you want to upload into an upload box, and they upload to the site. Once there and you want to link in the forum, you copy/paste the link. It's set up to be used that way, with the required URL's referenced along with each picture. Quite easy and quick once you get used to it.

A little extra info on PhotoBucket. Once you pic is there look through your library. Mouse over the pic and a little gear will appear in the upper right corner. move your pointer over the gear and you will get a dropdown list. Left click on 'get Links". That will bring up a window w/ four options. the bottom is "IMG Codes(for foums and boards). Left click this and the link verbage will disappear and be replaced w/ the word 'Copied" in a yellow bubble. Come back to you post here and move your flashing text bar to the left margin by hitting 'enter'.

Left click and then and then right click "paste" in the dropdown. you will see the verbage of the link as it appeared in Photobucket but once your thread is posted it converts to a picture. The advantage of this is that no matter the file size of your original pic, photobucket will resize it appropriately for here. BTW this is a shot of a B25 I saw recently.
