I'm a pretty meticulous guy and documented the steps for registering in South Carolina to the last detail. Here's what it takes.

First you need the original MCO. If you're not the original owner, you need the MCO signed on the back at the top and at the odometer statement. If you bought your kit from someone else you'll also need a bill of sale signed by the original owner.

Next is a color copy of your drivers license.

Then a completed MV-82 to expedite the registration and a check for the specified amount. http://www.scdmvonline.com/DMVNew/forms/MV-82.doc

Next is the form 4038 which will need to be signed by a DMV rep verifying the VIN is permanently affixed to the car. That will take a trip to the DMV on a trailer. South Carolina uses the VIN off the MCO as your vin and should be engraved on the tag. Things Remembered at the mall can engrave it for cheap.

After the 4038 is complete you need a form 400 for title. Use the info off the MCO to fill out the form 400. Again, South Carolina uses the MCO exactly as it's printed so use the data off of it verbatim. You will also need to enclose the casual use tax which is listed at the top of the form 400.

Finally, you'll need a copy of the invoice from FFR and engine. They didn't care about transmission or rear end.

Lastly, make a copy of everything for yourself and FedEx the entire package to DMV in Blythewood with the word 'expedite' on the outside of the envelope.

So to recap:
MCO
Driver license copy
Form MV-82
Signed form 4038
Form 400
Copy of ffr invoice
Copy of engine invoice

Include appropriate checks for expedite fee, casual use tax, title fee and plates if you're registering it at the same time.

Hope this helps.
Seth.
