How large of a 17"wheel and tire package can I fit safely under my '04 mk II? I'm getting ready to hit the streets this spring and this the last thing I need. Thank you for any information you may have.

Hi Toddo,
You should be able to run a 275/40-17 on that car with a 17X9" wheel. Just make sure you've got proper backspacing if you don't already have the wheels you'll be using.
Take care,
Jason @ FFR
I have a MKII, and it's been on the road since 2004.
You can run 17x9's in the front, but if you are using the Mustang LCA's, then you will need to add steering rack limiters(real cheap-they go on the tierods), if not, the rims will rub on the LCA's. If you have the FFR LCA's, then you should be ok.
You can run 17x10.5's with 275/40/17's with no rubbing issues. You can go to 315,s, but the tires will rub under hard corning.
