Just wondering if anyone still makes adjustable seat tracks. The FFR web store shows that they are unavailable.

I think Speedway Motors makes a set that is relatively inexepensive and low profile.

There are these from Breeze; they don't appear to be adjustable by lever, but have four positions. http://www.breezeautomotive.com/details.php?prod_id=609

I used the ones from Summit on a customer build. You'll have to do some simple fab work and modifications (I believe this would be true with tracks from any manufacturer) to hit both seat and frame structure. Be aware that you need to install them so that they are parallel with the trans tunnel and not just straight fore & aft otherwise as the seat comes forward it will wedge against the tunnel. You'll find some photos and discussion in the Mk4 build thread linked in my signature below.

Cheers,
Jeff

I have the Speedway track on the DS seat. Took a bit of fitting and piddling (doesn't everything?) to get it right, but it works. I extended the release lever a bit so it was more accessible at the front of the seat and substituted weaker springs to make it easier to operate. Now that seat sits about an inch higher than the PS, but no problem.

Do the FFR tracks bolt right in? I ordered the Summit tracks, but would go with the FFR units if installation is easier.

I bought the adjustable seats from Breeze for my first build, the installation of which is documented here -http://factory5roadster.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/9-16-11-seats-and-seatbelts/.

What my blog entry doesnt really show is how the seat plate does not line up nicely with the rear cabin bulkhead, resulting in its being placed forward by an inch or so from where the seat would naturally sit without it. On my most recent build, I did not use them as at 6' tall I need all the leg room I can get. I was also told that the seat plates cant the seats back a little, making them more comfortable. In all honesty, I never noticed any difference in comfort with or without them.

As far as adjustability, Im not really wild about letting anyone else drive my Roadster, so I this was not really an issue.

Hope this helps.

Jon

I am concerned about this too. I am 6'2" and whilst I don't need an adjustable seat, my wife will. I'm worried that the runners will raise the seat an inch (that I could do without).

Is anyone else 6'+ and lets their vertically challenged wife drive their Roadster?

I have sat in my friends with the seat track and I'm just about 6 foot. I didn't like how high I sat, he told me it just raises you up about a inch, but that inch put my live of vision right at the chrome piece on top of the windshield, and I didn't like that. If the seat track wasn't in, I would see a lot better.

Mine aren't in yet, but measuring, I think Summit sliders will raise me up 1.5 inches, but I have the Kirkey high backs. I think I'll be sitting below the windshield. Even sat in Rick8928's with a similar set up and he has the seats mounted slightly higher - still looking below the top of the windshield. Ditto in PJ's and he has Kirkey low backs, fit pretty well. I'm 6'2" with 36 inseam. Think the key is remove foam out of the regular FFR seats as others have suggested, or opt for something similar to the Kirkeys. Otherwise, need to mount them to the floor.

The Breeze seat installation kit mounts the FFR seats with the back edge of the seat touching the floor of the car, and reclines the seat about 6 degrees. To get a feel for the position just put a length of 2 x 4 across under the front edge of the seat frame and sit in the car.

I got the FFR adjustable seat tracks (they showed up about two months ago so I'm surprised to hear you can't get them), they don't just bolt right in and you'll have to get a bit creative to avoid using the lag screws they provide to secure the right side track to the 4" frame, I used hardened riv nuts (not my favorite fastener, but it looks good and will be more secure than a lag bolt). With a 1/8" spacer between the floor and the bottom of the seat tracks to provide clearance for the latch assembly, they end up raising the seat about 7/8". But like Mark mentions with the Breeze kits, it also raises the front of the seat up about 1/2" so the whole seat is on a little incline, it's not visually noticable, but you can tell when you sit in it.

*Note: unless you're planning on someone else driving your car, I would just bolt the seat in to wherever you find it to be most comfortable. I'm afraid the extra work and expense of putting the adjustable seat tracks in isn't otherwise worth it, but my wife is a full foot shorter than me and I want her to be ale to drive it as well.

Thanks for the installation info. I hope the finished product is worth the hassle.
