I found a set of stewart warner gauges dirt cheap, they are mechanical.
Can I use these with a fox 302 drive? If so, are there issues?

Yeah, that won't be a problem at all. The sending units for the ECU are differant than for any of the aftermarket electric gauges. The ECu doesn't interface with the gauges, so you can use whatever you like. You still have to install the senders for the ECU.
