I'm not sure if this is even worth it, cost-wise, but I want to get my roll bars chromed. I bought my kit partially assembled, and the previous owner ordered the kit with black powdercoated roll bars, and that just doesn't work for me. It's a Mk4 kit, with the smaller diameter (1.5" I believe) bars. I know the Factory Five Parts website sells the Mk1-Mk3 2" chrome bars ($530 a piece - YIKES!!), but I don't see anywhere that they list the Mk4 bars for sale. I'm sure there would have to be a way to order a set from Factory Five, but I imagine that the cost would probably be around the same. 2 sets of bars, that's $1,060, plus shipping. I'm really hoping it would be just cheaper to have these bars I've got stripped down and chromed, but I have no idea where to even look. Has anyone had any experience with a good chrome shop you could recommend? Anyone have any guess at what the cost would be to have these powder coated bars stripped and chromed?

Try posting here on classifieds/wanted. Some guys are doing the opposite and may have a set to sell, or even better, to trade! Good luck.

Yep...posted in the classifieds already to see if anyone is down to sell/trade. Thanks for the tip, though! Just trying to see what is the best, most cost effective route to go, here.

A lot of guys over on the other forum recommend this company. I personally haven't used them, but see them mentioned a lot. I have a couple parts to do for my Mk4 build, and will try to find someone more local. But may use if necessary.

I don't know if you watch the TV shows on the weekends called Powerblock; Extreme 4 x 4, Horsepower, Trucks, and Musclecar. Anyway, the show is based in Tennessee and they have used a local company to do their plating-- based in Nashville. I thought that at least being somewhat near you, that it would save on shipping costs. The company they use is called Advanced Plating, and their number is 1-888-364-3577. Here is their website info: http://www.advancedplating.com/
I have seen their work on the show, and it is very nice quality. They can do chrome and a number of other finishes as well.
I am not sure I helped you or not, but I wanted to at least share the information with you. Best of luck!

Steve

Thanks guys. I know there aren't any within driving distance of me (unless someone surprises me with one I don't know about) so I figure I'll have to ship it probably. I'll look into those suggestions. I may just see about buying some chrome bars or trading for my black ones, if I find some for sale/trade. But I'll keep those suggestions in mind. Thanks.
