View Full Version : Cost of 818S if built from only new parts (no donor parts)
As the title says, anyone have an estimation or did someone work this out already?
Thanks

First off, welcome to the forum. I would go the FFR website and look at what is needed to finish the kit and then source/price those parts.

I bet you would spend $15,000 to $25,000 if you tried to go all new, all oem, for all the donor parts, Obviously engine/transmission selection has a major roll in overall parts cost. I would guess that 15 grand would probably only get you the most basic of NA setups.

Stat - to clarify, I assume you are guessing $15-25k PLUS the cost of the 818S from FFR, bringing the total to $25k-$40k depending on options (plus shipping and tax).

Things like the Engine and transmission are going to get you... a new STi trans is around $5300 or $4000 for a WRX unit figure another $6000 for a new motor
Everything else would probably add up to another $6000 using an aftermarket wiring harness. Don't forget wheels and tires.

OEM components are expensive. Even little bolts that cost $1 at a hardware store cost $2.50 from Subaru.

Absolutely! I was strictly referring to the donor parts cost and did not include the kit cost.

Cosworth signed as a vendor yesterday and their banner has a nice EJ25 on it. I wonder what parts they sell, or whole engine packages? Worth looking into:

Is it even possible to order a new OEM wiring harness from Subaru?

My local dealer could get the wiring harness. It's easier to just go with Wayne's setup though.

Easier, yes, but that harness doesn't support all the things the factory one does. NOT dissing Wayne at all - it's a good solution. Just pointing out it's not a solution for all situations. There are good reasons to go with a factory harness.

I believe it "can" support most of them, but their optional.

Years ago, somebody added up the price of all the individual parts to build a Saab 95. IIRC, it didn't include assembly and it was about 5-6 times the cost of the Saab on the showroom floor.

^That's very typical. The cost of the individual parts is almost always many times the cost of the assembled product.
In this case though, I can see the appeal, and we don't need ALL the parts. In fact, relative to overall number of parts on a donor, we need very few parts really. I'm still hoping that FFR someday offers a complete kit for the 818 like they do with other kits.
