I've been wondering how comfortable the Roadster is for a guy my size. I'm 6'1" and a bit heavier than a normal build. Just wondering if anybody around my size can tell me how comfortable the Mk4 is on mid to long drives.
Thanks,
Mike

I am 6' 2" and 200 lb and am very comfortable for 100 mile stints then I need to stretch my legs. My 6' 4" 260 lb son also drives my car and although he is a little more cramped he complains more about the elbow room than leg room. I'm sure Dave Hodgkins will chime in Dave is a BIG guy and fits in his FFR surprisingly well. Just remember that you are building a sports car and not a limo it's not going to have the same comfort level as your Caddy.

It is all about seat selection and pedal position. I am 6'4" and about 240 and with the wrong seats do not fit. Without seats I am too low and a little far back. With stock seats too high and too forward. With aluminum shell seats and pads I am very comfortable. Kirkey or speedway low backs. HTH, Richard.

Rusty, you should have no problem fitting comfortably in one of these cars. You have a few inches in height on me (5" actually), but perhaps builders of your height and girth are more the majority here than not. Since most of us build these cars by ourselves and for ourselves, one of the benefits is that we can fashion them for as close a fit as one can get in an admittedly relatively snug cockpit. I for one like that compactness very much, since all the controls are near at hand. For me, getting into this car (MKII) is like putting on a piece of well fitting mechanical clothing: everything is just right. From allI have read on FFR Forums in the last several years, I see no reason why you won't be able to achieve the same results for yourself. Enjoy the journey.

Mike, I'm 6'3", 230 lbs and I have driven 9,000 miles in comfort with Kirkey seats. I stop and get out to walk around about every 90 minutes, but I do the same when driving my Mercedes. It's easy to build the FFR roadster to fit.

BigLeo69,

I like how you guys measure things out in MO!

Shoe size is a problem. There's not a lot of room around the pedals, especially with a mod-motor.

I am 6'4", 200#, size 14 shoes. I installed the Kirkey high back all the way back and put in footbox extensions on both sides for the driver. I fit in there just right. Have not gotten any bug on the forehead yet in 4000 smiling miles. Comfort is good.

Is there more room in a coupe?

What size width low backs did you guys get? 15, 16, 17, or 18?

I'm 5'10" and the stock kit seats barely will go in back far enough for proper legroom. I don't much care for the look of the Kirkey type seats but it very well may be the way to go if leg room is a issue.
