Looking into different cluster possibilities, how complex would it be to use a 06-07 STI Cluster?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-JDM-Subaru-WRX-STI-GAUGE-CLUSTER-SPEEDOMETER-JDM-EJ207-V9-Cluster-37-/141093195992

(don't check the price, I've seen better elsewhere, I took that link for pix only)

Steps to make it work. Wires, cluster connector, etc. How to mate that if I don't have the OEM wiring of any Subaru and I use a stand alone ECU?

Then again, how about fitting a 08+ STI Cluster?

I'm afraid in order to do that I would need to identify every single PIN from the back of the cluster (connector) and build my own harness and connector.

i have a 2004 usdm sti cluster which will work with 02-04 wrx harness

The 05-07 wrx harness will work with A 05-07 STI cluster, the 08 sti cluster, i am pretty sure prob could be intergrated, but i have not done yet

You would have to adapt your wiring to the Subaru cluster connector. Not to hard.

Ok so that implies as a pre-condition I need to have the subaru cluster connector. Which is pretty obvious, but confirmed even more now.

I really like the 06-07 I pasted in my 1st link of my original post and I can find some around 150-300 bucks here in Montreal! No shipping. Since they are a straight physical fit in the 818's dash and they look pretty great to me with 9krpm (plenty to run at depending on the engine) and 260km/h speedo (162mph), I am very tempted. But as you know I will not have a Subaru harness, nor any of the Subaru senders/sensors. That may be where I hit a few issues, like if the rpm or speedo pulses sent by my senders don't match what the STI cluster is expecting. I think I can convert that.

But for the wiring connectivity itself, if I get hands on a connector that fits the cluster, it's a done deal (maybe less for the 08 swap). I just need to map the wires between the right PINs and sensors. then I have to check the signal compatibility coming out of my non-Subaru sensors.

It seems the 2005 USDM STI Cluster is easier to fit into 2002-2004.

It's just that finding them in km/h might be a little harder for me.

But I have found some Dash Cluster Harnesses for various years. And under 50 bucks. So I get my connectors there and I even get them with wires in them.

Interesting... I'll keep these options floating and in the next few weeks-months I'll take a decision.

Try an Auto Meter LCD Dash. They just released it at SEMA. Its fully programmable.

Not holding my breath- It was supposed to be out last year, and was shown at the 2012 SEMA.

Not sure it's released yet (can't find on their website) but I'll keep that other option on my list, still got a year, so. :)

Ok I checked more on that. If you use a Subaru drivetrain, fitting might be well possible.

But if Subaru's sensors/cluster are not compatible with a certain drivetrain, say my VW engine, it would be pretty hard to use an STI cluster. Some clusters are 9v, others 12v, signal pulsations on rpm and speedo is not standard across brands, etc. Not sure I am ready to dive into that risk on my end. I'll check the basics though, but if I detect incompatibilities I'll stay with my VW cluster (which is pretty nice already anyway).
