I am going to continue to randomly throw out questions and suggestions well in advance of my planned 818 build in order to minimize head banging later...

anyway, here was today's thought as I was looking at some donor options as well as pictures of the 818 interior.

How about a nice looking trim ring around the shifter? I had something like this on my 2002 WRX before I sold it a few years back (just before the 818 project was announced - terrible timing).

Think something like this would bolt right in? Or maybe there is an intrepid individual or company that would want to make this with an "818" at the top instead of Sti or WRX.

Google image search "sti shifter trim ring" and you can see what it looks like installed.

Already plan to make one of these when I get around to the interior. ;) I want to drop my shifter inside the frame like LongislandWRX did first.

Awesome. Another Mechie3 part I'll likely be buying!

good to hear Mechie3. and thanks for pointing out the drop on LongislandWRX's build thread - apparently I had fallen behind a couple days!

it wont bolt right in, my plan was to cut the hole for the shift lever, using the trim ring as a guide, roll the carpet around the hole and bolt that trim ring to the aluminum so it can all be removed at once.

I was actually going to use he STi trim ring myself, but I don't really want to pay that much for one, I think I saw one for $70 but that was about the cheapest. In the meantime, looking for a used one / waiting on Mechies pricing

the one i had actually said "WRX" at the top instead of "STI." I finally found it online. It was made by a company called autospeed and currently listed on their (somewhat aged looking) website for $60. Not certain if they are still actually making these.
