What tires have yall found to be good for street driving?

Thanks,

Chris

A number of choices. Kumho Ecsta's routinely get great reviews, as a street tire but also for auto-x. Main negatives are they need to warm up a bit and maybe don't like cooler temps. For Georgia, probably less of an issue. Nitto has a couple of good choices. NT05's are good, but also a performance tire good for track use. Personally, when I went through this some months ago for my Mk4 build, where it will be 100% street driven, I chose Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR's. Little less money than either Kuhmo or NT05's, a little better wear and wider temp range. But also not as sticky or high performance. I'm confident they will be OK for how I will drive the car. Couple of local guys chose the same tires (that's how I found out about them) and they're happy with them.

You might want to post what sizes you are looking for. Could affect the selection.

One thing to keep in mind, assuming you are looking at 17s, is which tires have a 315 available. 275s are the widest in quite a few. Also the Kumho XS apparently has supply problems so be careful to ask if they are actually in stock or not.

Nitto NT555. Great tire at a good price. 315s for the back --- 245s for the front

I have the same rims. Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR 255/40ZR17 in the front. Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR 315/35ZR17 in the back. Either 245's or 255's work for the front, but many are using 255's. Fill the rims nicely. These are on my Mk4. The build isn't done yet, and not the best pictures. But the tires show up pretty well here. The guy at the tire store seemed quite knowledgeable. Said these are used a lot by the performance Mustang crowd. Said they're a very well built tire. The parent company is Toyo. A buddy has a recently completed Mk4 he's driving on these and is happy with them.

I need to upgrade my tires but have 15" rims. There aren't as many choices. I like the Bridgestone RE11, but not available.
Anyone running the Indianapolis 500 by Firestone?

I'm running Nationals (245/50R/16) all the way around. So far, with 8,000+ miles (0 track time) I'm happy with them.

Nitto 555 also. 6300 miles and no wear detected, and great traction for the street. A bit of tire whine at freeway speed, now that I've quieted down my exhaust sound level. Funny, I never heard the tires before then.

Thanks! A little off topic, but I did a write up in the other forum after several asked about it. http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/342954-lizard-skin-application-experience.html
