Looks really nice. Have you got any pictures of the car from behind when it is on the ground? How low does the tank sit compared to the normal tank?

And for the really dumb out here, how big is the standard tank? 21gallon sounds bigger than normal, but how big is normal?

I didn't get any pics of the car sitting on the ground. It sits in the same spot the original tank sits with the same straps so whatever you can see now is what you will see with this tank. The stock tank is only 15 gallons.

The only major difference right now is this tank is designed to draw fuel through its pickup tube using an external in-line pump. We offer an EFI version with an in-tank Walbro pump for fuel injected applications.

Stock is 15 gallons.

So it hangs down the same distance as the 15 gallon take does???

DaveBoyd

Yes there is no difference in how far it hangs down. It uses the Exact same straps and mounting points.

Any pictures of the internals? (to see how pickup tube is located, return line location, baffling structure, etc...)

We do have pictures but i cannot share them as the internal locations and baffling are few reasons that sets our tanks apart from others. I will tell you that there are 2 baffles running front to back and the pickup tube is ran to the center bottom of the tank with baffling around it to hold fuel at the pickup while accelerating, braking and turning. The return fuel is dumped back into the tank in a totally different area as to not allow fuel aeration.

Dave is there a roll over protection valve in this tank?

Martin

Dave - how does a 21gallon tank mount at the same point, hang down to the same height, use the same straps fit into the same space as a 15 gallon tank? I guess I am asking if this tank reduces trunk space at all - with or without the drop trunk mod?

Martin

ps. I hate the way this place tries to spend my money.

Marc,

This Replacement does not have a provision for roll over protection as it vents like the stock tank through the fill pipe however, adding a fitting and a rollover valve is not hard to do as we do it to alot of our tanks.

Where is the vent fitting located? I only see sender, pickup, return, fill, drain.

Also, how come adding efi adds another $300? There doesn't appear to be a place for an in-tank pump (unless the efi design is different and uses an intank pump?) so I'd imagine you'd be using some type of external electric like an a1000

Martin,

Good question. the stock 15 gallon (mustang) tank has a notch in the tank to
clearance the spare tire well when used in the fox body mustang. On the FF Roadster that space is wide open which allows us to use every inch of available room, increase the gallons and keep the same look from under the car.
One thing i was not familiar with was a "drop Trunk Mod" Below is a picture of the chassis we had in the shop and installed this tank in.
1079
if the chassis has been changed in any way from the above picture it will not fit. I was told from FF that a few early MK4's the trunk was lowered but has since been put back in the original place as the MK 2&3.

The tank vents through the fill pipe like the mustang tank does. Like i stated in an above post adding a vent fitting and roll over is very simple (the pictures do not reflect the vent fitting)
As For the EFI you are correct we will make a provision in the top of the tank that our IN-Tank Pump assembly will fit into (also not pictured)

Dave - sorry to take up your time with silly questions. Maybe an "in-tank" fuel pump isn't really in-the-tank, but how would you fix or replace the pump if it is truly inside the tank? Your tank looks pretty much welded shut (beautifully I might add!)

An internal EFI Pump is inside of the tank. The EFI version of the tank will have a bracket welded to an access panel that will bolt into the top of the tank with 12 ss screws. the whole assembly will be able to be serviced by removing the screws. Take a look at the pictures of the EFI version for the 33 hotrod on my site that will help you understand how it works. here is a link http://www.boydwelding.com/products/factoryfive/factory-five-33-roadster/%20#more-1064

Remember you do not need to have an In-tank EFI system to run fuel injection. you will however need to have an in-line externally mounted Pump capable to flow the PSI needed.

Unless they've changed it, mustang tank has a vent on the upper passenger side corner - the hole above the hole for the pickup here

but your'e right, it's isn't too difficult to weld a -8 fitting in there and call it a day :D

I did some research this morning and your right. I questioned that when we Un-installed the tank from the car and the Return line was ran to that upper hole. I didn't question it after that. Well we have our first revision. Thanks for your input!

Hi Dave,
The vent tube in the filler pipe allows air out when you're filling up but once the cap goes on it is sealed. The second vent with the roll over protection valve allows air in as the fuel burns off and in/out when the car is sitting and temp changes. The rollover valve prevents fuel from getting out the vent in the case the car rolls.

Cheers, Rod

Dave that's a really nice looking tank. I have often thought of making a custom tank for mine with the main goal being to hide the tank so that it doesn't hang down below the body. With the extra room on top of the tank I think you could modify the contour of the bottom of the tank to nicely tuck it up out of view and still wind up with more capacity. It would probably need some custom straps but they should not add a lot to the cost. I think you might find quite a few people who would buy the tank if it provided a solution to not having it hang down below the body contour.

Thanks Rod!! We will have the Vent with roll-over protection added to the design.

Mike,

Any custom tank can be built as long as the customer is willing to do modifications. Our goal was to provide a higher capacity tank with no structural modifications needed and using the same mounting straps.

If you like the tank to be hidden you can still use the plastic skid plate from the stock tank as everything matches to keep the same look as what you already have. I personally like it without the skid plate.

I would be interested in a tank that was hidden.

Dave your tank looks great , I have almost the same tank that Joe Goviea sells from Nor-East Replicas the only difference is that it bolts to the existing frame rails and holds 26 gallons & you can get it for carb or fuel in-jection setups about the same money or less, but yours does look great good luck!
