It seems to me that the Canton aluminum coolant expansion tank that the previous owner installed is in the wrong location. He mounted it on the front cross brace where the filler cap is located below the radiator hose at the top of the engine. That means I need to locate the tank closer to the firewall where the filler cap on the tank can be the highest point in the coolant system. If I am wrong, please correct me before I attack the plumbing!

I have the Canton tank and I mounted to the X member...no problems. When the engine cools off it sucks the coolant back into the system so the tank can be below the highest point of the cooling system.

That is exactly where I am in the process of installing the same tank shown in CJs picture. It would be there already except that I had only coarse thread bolts so will be hitting the hardware store this AM. The engine will suck the coolant back from that tank even though it is a little on the low side. Although the cap is very substantial it is not a pressure cap, so this tank is an overflow only.

I was waiting to see if someone would say something about my Webster hood support.
Actually it works great because it doesn't leave any marks on the hood. I have a $30 Lisle collapsible hood support I carry behind the seat but I don't like to use it because the rubber boot tends to scuff the underside of the hood. Plus the Webster always gets interesting comments...:o
