View Full Version : Pictures of rear wing mounts?

So I was able to source one of the wings that looks very similar to the FF wing, but quite a bit cheaper. It's a hair over 69" wide and has a really nice carbon fiber finish on it. The downside is that the stanchions, uprights, stands, or whatever you would like to call it, are cheap and sitting way too high. It puts the wing up about 15", which is higher than the car and looks a bit goofy, in my opinion.
So the option is to machine some new mounts, but I've noticed from some pics of the FF wings that the mounts are really thin at the base.
Can anyone post pictures of the FF wing base mounts on the top and bottom of the hatch?
Even if it's not the FF wing, post pics. I'd like to see how the wings are mounted, height, etc.
Thanks!
P.S. I have a Gen I

Here is a picture of the factory five wing and how I mounted it.

Here is the wing I found with a new set of aluminum uprights I found that are 7" tall.
It's just sitting on there right now, but it's to get the point. (I still haven't put the diffuser back on, so I know that's missing.)

Looks pretty close to the FF wing. I think the width works well too. It's just a hair over 69" wide.

I made a bolt on bracket for the wing mount that also serves as base for the air lift compressor or a rear mounted battery, on the gen 2 the upright mounts support the wing mount through the body. On the gen 1 it goes through the hatch with a detachable bracket. I made the bracket out of 1" square tubing, it is strong enough to support the weight of the car and is inexpensive to make. Sorry about the blurry picture but is the only one I have.

Dan, Is that a D-Drug wing from Andy's Autosport? If not, may I ask where you got it?
Thanks. PS Gotta' get up there to see your car

So they go through the back hatch on the Gen 1? How do you detach it if you can't get the hatch open?

I got it off Ebay for $338. It's identical to the ones posted in a previous post about the D-Drug. They aren't manufactured in Illinois, but China. I know how the forum is about advertising someone else's stuff, but if you search for "carbon GT wing", you should see it. Fast shipping from California too. Had it here in 3 days (Arizona).

I ended up cutting my hatch into two pieces.
The rear portion is clipped on with the front/main section operating as usual.
So they go through the back hatch on the Gen 1? How do you detach it if you can't get the hatch open?

Dan,
Here's a thread showing Shane's original system (I think he sells a weld-on system now)http://www.ffcars.com/forums/42-factory-five-gtm-forum/229615-any-interest-gtm-universal-wing-frame-mount.html. If you go down to post #14 shows his quick disconnect pin set-up used to remove the wing in order to open the hatch.

Hey Dan. Nice job. The car looks great. Yes mine is a gen2. So unless u do what Dave did to split his hatch. You can't mount the wing to the frame through the body.
If you end up taking the car to SEMA. I'm sure you will get lots of looks.
