So I'm one of five people picking up an 818 kit on Saturday, which I'm pretty thrilled about. I'm a little upset that all the 818's are gone to SEMA though.

Which hotel would people recommend or not recommend?

I stayed in Plymouth. A short drive away, and right on the water.

Can't remember the name of the hotel - sorry. We went out for an AMAZING dinner that night - I believe it might have been at a place called Issac's? It was a half block from the hotel where we stayed.

Had the steak and prawns (and they were huge!) -- only time I've ever regretted eating steak in my life. Should have ordered extra prawns instead! Best seafood I've EVER eaten ANYWHERE !

Really depends what direction you are coming from. If from the west, theres a Holiday Inn right on 495 in Taunton, MA its right on the way with a large ample parking lot for your trailer. Its about a 40 minute drive to FFR from there.

Did you already get your 818? Do you have your completion kit?

That is the John Carver Inn. Across the street is the restaurant Issacs.

Also, there is a Fairfield (ocean view rooms available) about 20 minutes from FFR that gives a major discount to FFR customers. Check with Sally Bean at FFR for more info.

Great bars and restaurants a walking distance away from the hotel.

I'm also picking up Saturday morning, looking for a place to stay as well. I'll call Sally today for some details. Just wanted to make sure there was room to park. Otherwise I was going to just sleep in the truck. :)

FYI - Hotel is:

Ask for the Factory Five group rate. It's $99. I just booked my room for Friday night.

This is from when I picked up my MK 3 roadster - I haven't gone down to pick up my 818R yet, but will do the same drill.

We left quite early in the AM from here so we arrived at FFR while they were still open. I wasn't there more than 5 minutes before some staff offered to unhitch and store my trailer @ FFR while I was in the area. I'm not sure I got the full "yes" out before they had it unhitched and parked. Great group of guys - although if interested you will want to ask if you can store your trailer there overnight.

Whereabouts in Canada are you, burner?

Congratulations on your 818 pickup.

I wrapped some 2x6 by 10 foot boards with indoor/outdoor carpet to rest the frame on. Bring lots of ratchet straps. You can't have to many as I hit some nasty unavoidable road conditions in a few places on the highway where construction was happening. I got it home in a 26 foot UHaul Truck rented one way from the place down the road (it was cheapest that way for me) as I am in Southern NH, (local). The team at FFR is very helpful in making sure it gets loaded both safe and secure.

BTW the folks in the FFR community are great. NHRed65 met me at my home and helped me and my sons unloading the 818. Once the panels were off it was moved down the ramp on two large furniture dollies easily. Thank you NHRed65!

Cheers!

If you are taking your better half I would suggest The Belfry bed and breakfast in Sandwich, Mass, which is about 15 minutes from FFR. The B&B is the coolest place I've ever stayed, the restaurant is very good and there is a huge parking lot behind the church for a car trailer. It is not cheap lodging, but if you are taking your better half it should be money well spent.

I actually don't have a "better half" lol. Being 24 and all, I'm just taking a buddy with. Should be a good road trip. I booked the hotel with the $99 special rate.

I will keep the B&B in mind for when I have a better half and I'm ready for my next kit. It sounds like its the kind of place to soften up the feelings about spending thousands of dollars on a hobby car.
