I am making some progress on the remote reservoir kit for the 818. Still waiting on some price quotes for machine parts. I am hoping to keep this kit way under $100.00

The kit will consist of :
1 remote fluid reservoir. Please note that reservoir may be a used part at least initially. These reservoirs tend to be very pricey. I will only ship perfect parts though. I am still searching for the perfect one.

3 master cylinder adapters
3 90 degree fittings for adapters
2 adapter retainers
1 Y adapter
2 1/2 to 3/8 hose adapters
2 short lengths of 1/2 hose
2 feet of 3/8 hose.
1 brake line adapter

I still have not tested this system out on my car wet yet. Hope to do that this week. and have a final price by early next week.

Please tell me what you thing so far.

Yes! I knew you could do it, Mike. Count me in for one kit, for sure.

Hi Mike,
On my first car I don't have a clutch so I will run the 2 pipes to the brake master cylinder. Will you have to bleed the hose of air or is it down hill all the way to the MC?

I'm in as well. I would also be interested in the alternator mount turnbuckle. I'd love to come up and see your build sometime as well.

Great idea! Any thoughts on whether it might affect a windshield wiper install? Maybe just 6" left or right with some additional hose? Or is there another factor I haven't taken into account? Unfortunately the wiper will be required in my state. Hey, no problem is insurmountable, right?

Would be very interested at that price, for sure.

Not really sure about wiper interference. This can pretty much be mounted anywhere on the windshield frame though.

Mike,

As we discussed on the phone, I am in for a kit as well and the alternator turnbuckle too.

Question - looks like you are using one reservoir for both the brakes and clutch - is that the case?

Thx,

Henry

Looks good. Not sure if I'll want one or not - depends on how I feel about the stock stuff. Question: Can the remote reservoir be mounted on the frame somewhere in front of the brake & clutch master cylinders?

Xusia. It really needs to be mounted as high as possible due to the location of the master cylinders on the chassis. There really isn't a suitable spot on the frame that will be high enough.

Henry. yes one remote reservoir. If you see any issues with that let me know. I figured its all brake fluid so why no share?

Mike
does the tank have a patrician in it?
You need the 2 tubes from the tank going to the dual master cylinder. If you blow a brake line going to one wheel, you want the 2 brakes on the other half of the circuit to continue working. If that one wheel dumps all the fluid on the ground you will have no brakes. Put the Y in the circuit going to the clutch.

Bob you may be right, but I thought the Master cylinder automatically closes what ever port has no pressure? The tank is not segregated. It is one large tank. I am in the process of trying to find a triple or at least double reservoir for this application. Very hard thing to find at a reasonable price. FFR offers stainless steel singles that would work. Problem is, you would need three. And at $50.00 per piece its not really economically feasible. The kit would end up costing over $200.00 I am trying to keep it under $100.00
Thanks for all the responses. I want to make this both safe and cost effective.

Oh, what the hell... this is cool, and I've gone over budget with Wayne and Craig's parts, so I'll take one!

I'll repost this from the alternator discussion because it applies here [for me] as well: Can you explain why this is needed? Is this something that even the most basic, as intended build needs to have sorted out or are there only certain situations where this is needed?

I'm pretty sure I'll want one too.......

Eric. There is no access (at least not easily) to the reservoirs once the car is built without cutting a hole in the front of the windshield surround. The reservoirs are actually under the windshield. This kit will give it a cleaner look.

does the tank have a patrician in it?

pa·tri·cian
pəˈtriSHən
noun
1. an aristocrat or nobleman.

Bob, I assume you meant a partition? ;)

Yes , I am interested. Better than hacking into windshield cowl to gain access. Let us know how it works !

FYI- a Porsche 914 Reservoir has a partician inside to keep front/rear fluid separated in case of cut line. $37 new. I'm sure it can be made to work. Just make sure to use a 914 cap (not 911)- the 914 cap is vented. I do not think all 911 caps are vented (they have a vent/nipple on the back of the reservoir-911)

* I sent my check for all your 818 parts. Great stuff.

Mike, do you happen to know if anyone has gotten this to work with windshield wipers or is it best to stay stock and cut the windshield surround? Wipers are in my future for a Tennessee registration unfortunately...

Mike's reservoir can be placed anywhere as long as it is above the master brake/clutch cylinders. It doesn't necessarily need to mount where the wiper would be.
