View Full Version : My odometer runs backwards: could I have a 90 deg adapter instead of a reverser?

It's an Autometer Classic reverse reading speedo sourced from FFR (some years ago) and the adapter that I ordered with it. I took it apart and reset the odo to the correct mileage.

Here are the three most likely possibilities
1. I reassembled the speedo so it runs backwards
2. I have a 90 degree adapter and not a reversing
3. My transmission speedo gear runs backwards (1991 T5 from the donor)

Note: The speedo doesn't register and the odo appears to run backwards at an accelerated rate.

What are some tests I could use to determine where the problem. For example, should the input to the speedo be clockwise or counterclockwise?

Thanks

Reverser assembled backward? I think it can go together two ways.

It's not clear how to assemble the speedo and reverser together differently than I did, also, since it reverses rotation, what difference would that make?

#3 can be ruled out.

Yes the adapter can be assembled differently, as a standard rotation or as a revers rotation. Yours is backwards to your needs.

Better catch it...

Excellent. I'll give it a try! Thanks
