View Full Version : CNC Parts Interest

I got some quotes back from the machine shop on parts I've made fo rmy own 818. If there's enough interest, I'll have to become legitimate and sign up to be a vendor. If you're interested, please put your name followed by what you want. I'll have to make the risk judgment of how many people that want it will actually buy it before I spend a bit of money upfront to have parts made.
Currently no plans to offer the alternator mount. I'd have to sell it for over $200 to make any profit (though, carl davey sells his for 195 british pounds, ~ $315). Not sure if there's enough interest for that. If there is, I'll make it.
Oil Fill Tube. Includes tube, cap, new Subaru square o-ring, and a new o-ring between cap and tube: $80
No logo. I could potentially do logo's on a case by case basis, but no promises. Difficulty is that it's hard to control the orientation of the logo relative to the thread start. Having a shop do these would result in very few being right side up.

I'm definitely in for the coolant tank relocation bracket. I'll have to take a look at the stock oil fill tube and let you know.
As far as a logo goes, I'd much rather have a logo that's not oriented correctly, than to not have a logo at all. In fact, I really couldn't care too much less about the orientation of a logo on a cap.
Also, I thought you had more parts you'd made...

Haven't quoted all of them yet. Some parts were more 1-off's to fit my particular setup and would require that someone has the same mods/setup I do.

Craig,
I'll commit to buy both:

I'm on the fence for the alternator mount. Could you post photos of that here?
Thanks,

This is 1/2 of it. The other half is a knurled cylinder with RH and LH threads (a turnbuckle) and rod ends to adjust tension.
Top one is complete. Bottom one is prototype.

Metros: Absolutely for oil filler and coolant tank relocation bracket.
Possibly for alternator bracket. I really need to look into what my options are.

Coolant bracket sold as a kit with hose, clamps and nipple would be a sweet setup.
Interested in seeing how hot that fill cap gets.

Depending on timeframe, I would be interested in the reservoir bracket and the oil fill tube.

Got one quote back for the coolant bracket. It would be $70. Quote came back higher than I expected (likely due to the size of material and the amount of scrap). Waiting to hear from another place. The $70 wouldn't include hoses (i'd lose money if I included that). I'm hoping the other place is cheaper and I can make a kit that isn't too expensive (IMO) for what it is.
818 Logo's would be an additional $8. Whereas my prototype has the 818 standing proud and the material cut out around it, these would have the 818 itself cut out of the material.
I'll have to start reading up on LLC's again. :D

I'm still in for the oil filler and coolant bracket. (I ordered Mike's alternator bracket, so no need there)

HAHA legalzoom it. you can incorporate in about 30 minutes. Although if you are having them made for you, you are probably already absolved of most responsibility.

They're made for me, but I'm the seller. Don't need my house, cars, and 818 taken away and my/wife's pay checks garnered because someone did something dumb and blames it on me or my parts. ;) Plus, I can deduct upfront cost as business expenses.

You can still claim expenses on a Schedule C without a LLC, but for the liability reasons you mentioned it's a good idea.

Craig. I would NEVER do that. Something dumb I mean. Suing you to take away your hard earned stuff, well that's a another story! Hahaha!
Of course I'm just kidding. You should protect yourself from the dumbasses of the world. And there are a lot of them. You have seen idiocracy, right?

It's not too terribly difficult, I made one in the early 2000s. Basically you pay $500 or so to a company who incorporates you. Aside from that it's just a checking account in the companies name.

I've seen parts of it. I've become more and more aware over the years that the harder you work for something the more somone else feels entitled to what you have. We had people dig up and steal a tree and several phlox plants from our house 4 years ago. My bad, my wife and I shouldn't have worked so hard in school to be able to afford nice things while you can't. Sorry.... /sarcasm

Or, just pay $99 to register with the state of Indiana and incorporate yourself and pocket the extra $401. :D

Put me down for an oil filler cap as well. I didn't realize how ugly the stock one was.

Hey Craig,
Is the cap compatible with stock? I'm wondering if an aftermarket air/oil separator designed to work with the stock oil filler would still work.
Mechie3

No. It's smaller than stock and the threads are reversed. Stock has male threads on the cap, mine has female threads on the cap.

Hi Craig,
I am interested in the oil filler and the reservoir relocation bracket. Could you please list the required hoses and fittings (size and lengths you used)?
Great looking parts that make servicing the 818S more serviceable!
Thanks!
