Installing a radio - hope I can actually hear it - anyway, does anyone know if the "radio" wire on the harness is switched? The radio needs one switched and one unswitched! Thanks!

Are you asking about the Ron Francis harness supplied by FFR? If so, it has both a switched radio wire (brown) and unswitched radio memory wire (red). They are marked and (as I recall) loose on the main harness.

Walter, what type of radio setup are you going with? I'm putting one in my MkIV as well, but haven't decided which.

I would recommend a bluetooth enabled head unit so you dont spoil the interior with a modern radio. I stick my iphone in my cup holder, blue tooth connected, I control the volume level and song selection through the phone.

I also use the bluetooth method as Tyler mentions above on mine but no cupholders yet (considering adding them).
FYI - some phones (including an iphone5 and my razr m) slide very nicely into the loop at the end of the shoulder seat belt harness. Easy to slide it out slightly to use the volume buttons and don't have to worry about it flying around the cockpit.
Best of luck!

I was planning to connect this to directly to my Amp. Connect my iPhone and control the volume.

What are you using for Bluetooth? I don't want to install a headunit.

Hi all, My MK4 is complete and I left the audio system out. After a summer of driving however, I think that undere normal cruising conditions I'd have no issue hearing a radio (I have the Coyote which has a great sound, but fairly mild until you hit the go pedal). But, I put a rear glovebox between the rear seats, taking up a fair portion of the space between the rollbars in the trunk. So my question is more about where people are putting speakers, and what type of speakers are being used?

I am using Clarion head unit with built in bluetooth, inexpensive at $129. The picture shows my set up so I do not lose much storage space in the trunk. I built a custom cage to hold the system. I am running to an Alpine PDX F6 Amp. I decibel metered it around 96-98 dB yesterday (arbitrarily) from an iphone app....(FWIW). I can hear music on the highway at 80 mph. I always have music playing. My main 6x9s are behind the soft backed carpet in the rear bulkhead.

Tyler - big fan of your set up. I may fine tune mine a bit to steal from you, at least on the mounting methodology.
I skipped the head unit and run a headphone jack from a small rechargeable bluetooth receiver (link below) in the cockpit directly to a/v cables in an amp in the trunk. When I want a cleaner look at a cruise night or something like that, I just unplug the lines inside the car.
No issues with volume on the expressway also. I have 2 - 6x9's in the back wall as well (or maybe 5x 7's???), but they are spaced towards the outside, directly behind the seats, essentially. If you do it this way, you have to watch out for the tabs for the shoulder harness that are also in the trunk before you cut big holes in the aluminum and find out they interfere.

here is a very official flow chart of mine to excessively elaborate on the above post. Had I thought this through better 7 years ago, I would have attached a female headphone jack through the bottom of the dash or somewhere else inconspicuous like you see on a lot of new cars:
In car: Bluetooth receiver -> female/female headphone adapter -> male headphone to red/white male audio cable ->
Behind dash/in trunk: female to male audio cable -> amp -> speaker wire -> speakers

I also have a USB/3.5mm Jack that goes straight to my head unit. I ran it through one of my AC register housing so you can barely notice it. I can plug if needed or charge my phone while driving. I also have a USB port in trunk so I can charge my phone while parked and lock the trunk.
The last thing I am going to do is run a 'radio only' switch with a diode that allows me to run only the radio when parked instead of everything tied to the ACC post.
And yes....I have thought through my sound system alot....
