This car is for SEMA

Dave's Facebook post:

The guys are working long hours getting ready for the 2013 SEMA Show. This AWESOME paint job on our 818S was done by the masters at Carl's Collision in Fall River. This year, we're bringing 12 Factory Fives. We'll have a lot more news over the next few weeks as the show starts Tuesday, November 5th

How do you post a large picture?

Hi Bob!
Hover your cursor over the image you posted and when you get the pop up box that says "click image for larger version" do so. With the larger version displayed right click it to get options then hit "properties" Copy the entire URL. Now type then paste the copied URL followed by

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=22763&d=1382497488

You can post any photo full size by bracketing the URL with the tags. When you use the "insert image" option from the toolbar they are automatically resized to the smaller format.

Cheers,
Jeff

It's a great color isn't it?

I can't wait to see some get started. I also suspect that Factory Five's other colors will be just as cool!

How's your build coming?

I wasn't going to paint. Between this and Wayne's car I may change my mind.
My build has slowed down for the last 2 weeks while figuring out some engineering issues.

I'm a real traditionalist when it comes to the roadster colors for my car but it seems the 818 screams for modern paint.

I can't wait to see it. I hope they set it up for Wookies!

That is the one I think is over the top. It is great to live so close to the factory. I would so take the RHD one, the colors are just so awesome. The red one is beautiful in real life, so much better then in pics. The humps are painted black on the red car and it is almost a must, really defines the look. The color matching stitching on the interiors finish off the package. F5R has outdone themselves.

The more important question is if the car is able to be ordered with any of these cf pieces if they are truly carbon and not a wrap.

Kalstar

They are true carbon. I mention to Tony that they should offer this as an upgrade package. It took a looooong time to make, so plan for a huge bill if they offer it (which I doubt they will). It is a master-piece in person.

The straight on from the back (in the pic) looks different then when you see it in person. 5 degrees in either direction and it looks like it should "and not a Capri". The red car looks narrow from the back, the green looks wide, color makes a big difference.

I have seen the top n person many times and regardless of price I am buying it. Really finishes off the car nicely.

The hood is gorgeous, but the standard fiberglass hood is so light, what would be the weight savings? Not that you never need any excuse for wanting carbon fiber, but the weight and business case for cf body panels isn't there. I'll be happy with my c.f. splitter, rocker panels and diffuser. The only thing a may wrap is the spoiler to keep it consistent with the other aero parts. I would have paid more for it in c.f., but it's so light, that it would be only for aesthetics.

Maybe it's the angle, but the rear view of the soft top might give me nightmares!

Part of the issue is that shot was obviously taken close up with a wide angle lens and the perspective distortion isn't doing it any favors. This is why portrait work is always done from further away with a longer lens... it's much more flattering.

Not sure what you mean by "links", but regarding door latches and stuff, FFR's website is pretty to clear to me on that: Door hinges, front, w/latches, strikes and inside door handles.

Hi Frank818,

The latest 818-Rev F Build manual on page 18 says
"Remove the hinges, latches, strikers, and interior door handles from the REAR doors for use in the build." Emphasis was in the FFR manual not added by me.

I have saved both front and back hardware anyway.

Page 384 shows one of 3 WRX links

The Latch and linkage looks like this:

23014

Thanks Wayne,

So the 818 frame has a square cutout for the plastic pivot link (shown in WRX linkage picture) to attach as it is a plastic snap fit?

FFR was finishing up the new door panels, so with all the SEMA preparation, I expect supplemental info will come down the road.

BTW any detailed pics of the big/tall gas tank option and shelf behind the passenger seat in the green RHD 818 would be appreciated. Thanks!

The 818's going to SEMA are so sharp!

The first three that you mentioned are painted. What about Waynes? Is his painted or bare gelcoat? It seems like they should display a least one paintless build since the money saved there is one of the biggest reasons to get an 818 kit.

Wow, yeah, the interior is starting to really look great. Now its getting down to more minor details. It would look less 'kit' if they could add a trim ring around the shifter boot. Also that metal door sill cover would be nice if it was a molded plastic piece or something less kit looking. These incremental improvements the car just keeps getting better abnd better.

SEMA is where you want to get noticed by your manufacturing peers, show what you can do. A gel coat car won't get a second glance as there are hundreds of absolute best of the best painted cars every where in the show. Don't bring a butter knife to a gun fight...
