View Full Version : Bad Fuel system Hose?

When I finished installing new hoses between the fuel filter and hard line going to the engine, my hands were covered with black goo. It seems (?) like the rubber hose was being partly dissolved by the gasoline. I bought the hose from O'Reilly Auto Parts, and specifically asked for hose for fuel lines. Did they sell me the wrong stuff? I am paranoid about making sure there are no leaks in the fuel system, and wonder if I should replace the hose. If yes, what should I use?

Hey David, I've had that happen when I run fuel through transmission fluid hose. It's possible the guy at the parts store messed up and gave you trans line instead, since they look the same (both have the white thread inthe middle when you cut it, but they usually say on the side). Really, any high pressure fuel hose should be good, but I know for certain I've used the following on several of my builds and have not had an issue. If your using the components that came with the full kit, then this one is the right size too (5/16"). Also note that you should only use this if you're using a carburator, otherwise I would move up to stainless hoses and AN fittings.

Do you have ethanol in the gas? If so, that could be the cause of the problem. Either replace with ethanol-resistant lines or run fuel without that horrible stuff.
