Hi guys,

a couple install questions if I may.

First up, I notice the Moser diff and the 3 link support frame come all unpainted. Is this correct? If so, should I paint them all?

And following on from painting the diff, if I remove the rear cover, will I need a new gasket to reseal it?

And on that front, the instructions say to remove the rear cover to fill the diff with oil. Again, do I need to replace the gasket?

Also, regarding the 3 link support frame, I notice I have to drill a hole into the end of the LHS chassis rail, to allow this item to be bolted up in that location. When installing this bolt, should there be a washer or spacer of any kind between the chassis and the support frame?

And on the diff itself, there is a lug seemingly doing not much sitting on top of the housing. Should I be doing something with that?

Thanks

You definitely want paint both the axle, and the panhard bar mount. To seal the cover just use an oil approved silicone gasket maker, I prefer Permatex Ultra Black. When you bolt the panhard bar bracket to the chassis it needs to be bolted tight to the frame rail, no shims or washers. You do not use the mount on the top of the diff for anything.

Tim,

I painted my panhard bar and FFR Moser 8.8 Differential with Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black Gloss #11172Z and got good results. I used this product last year on the frame of my old Corvette and have remained pleased.

One Concern: Not sure how well Extreme Chassis Black wil hold up to differential (pumpkin) heat. I believe it will, but to be safe you may want to confirm with Eastwood. The car forums raise concerns about the need for a heat resistant paint on the "pumpkin".

If you have spray equipment Eastwood's 2K Ceramic Chassis Black is supposed to be superb, but the regular aerosol Extreme Chassis Black gives very professional looking results. If you go with Eastwood use their primers. For the Extreme Chassis Black you can prime with their Rust Encapsulator #16060Z or Extreme Chassis Black Primer #11193Z.

Having it professionaly powdercoated is always a good option.
