As I cannot afford to spend 1/4 the price of a kit to run an electrical system that is offered by vendors here to run a subi motor, Can a dist. or crank trigger system with empty dist with rotor only be used to simply run spark to the engine, ie: the H6 as that would be my motor of choice.? then a simple manifold with carbs..........like a old VW Bug system? I know , big run on sentence, hope it made sense to you guys...............thanks Steven

yup I read that thread, what I haven't gotten figured is how to get the spark/timing part done. how to do that end of the deal.

Why don't you just run a stock WRX engine with the Subie wiring harness? Yes, you'll want to remove a bunch of circuits but there are pioneers blazing that trail right now. You will either be able to follow directions or send the harness to someone who knows what to do with it.

You'll end up with a FAST car that even has an OBDII port.

You would still have to buy an aftermarket crank trigger type ignition system. Not cheap IMO. You would be much better off with the stock wiring and ECU as far as cost goes. The bug had a distributer, no such thing on the subies nowadays.

Stock Ecu isn't an option for the H6. TecGT and chassis harness from Wayne is $2500. He's looking for a cheaper option.

I may be wrong about this but I thought he wanted to do an automatic with his H6? Would the stock ECU not work in this config.?

^ should work just fine or atleast with minimal effort so long as its using a D, I wouldn't be shocked if the whole canbus thing messes things up for ez30rs, then again, all of these have been swapped into other subarus using a jumble of EM options including factory, so there are answers out there if your willing to dig deep enough for em.

As I recall, a factory H6 ECU will work, but it will require some work-arounds due to it's using an output from the automatic transmission as an ECU input.

See ..........now I'm getting confused again. I guess if I want an auto I'm going to need an ecu? Any old Scooby auto's out there than can be used without an ecu?

If cost is a restraint for you, then I think it boils down to 2 options:
1. Stock H4 (with turbo if you want more power) with either 5MT of 4EAT, and using OEM wiring harness <-- This is also the least build effort.
2. Stock H6 with auto, and using OEM wiring harness <-- NOTE: Using an EZ36 probably means hassles because I believe they are all CANBUS wiring. Older EZ30 engines can be found in traditional wiring.

There is a new H6 guy on the forums to pester.... he has a older legacy with an EZ30D+manual swap running a factory ecu, so for those that have not been believers, you can complete this swap into an 818 without needing a whole new EM. his first post is here. http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?11192-H6-EZ30-engine-in-the-818-IT-FITS&p=121790&viewfull=1#post121790

Sticking my nose in where it don't belong, but MAYBE an MSD DIS-2 Plus might work. Use a Ford coil pack for a 4 cyl and eliminate the subie COPs? Just thinking out loud. Not sure about the subie crank trigger being compatible, might require something custom.
