TO start with some backround, MK 3 on road 6 years. Engine is World products 427 stroker.
Engine has quite a radical cam and vibrates alot. Car is not raced but driven well. Today the owner, (wastehauler) called and told me he was driving and heard a clank thud. He drove car to my shop. I opened hood, OK looks good. Look under and see the starter wedged between the ground and the frame. The wires were still attached. Jacked it up and found that the main aluminum plate was still bolted to the Scattershield ( gold one not the new black one).
Close inspection revealed that this starter(Powermaster Master Torque) has a infi-clock plate to adjust the starter position. There are two # 10 screws holding the plate to the starter body. One was missing and the other broken. I also noticed that the inner plate for the infi-clock was missing.
I got out the inspection camera and looked inside the scatershield and , yep there it was.
Got lucky used coat hanger and camera to get the part ,which is about 2 1/2 inches in dia and 1/4 in thick, close to starter hole so could get two fingers in and pull it out.
This starter is toast as it was dragged for several miles, but no other damage was done.
My concern is I dont want to use another Powermaster starter, as this design is very poor, the weight of the starter is held up by two # 10 screws. This starter was installed by another mechanic about a year ago when the orig starter ( From Breeze) expired.

I'm trying to find another starter locally to get car back on the road. Am I correct in that it is a mustang 5 speed with 3/4 offset starter ?

Want to get another high torgue mini.

The stock starter from a 95 Mustang is a high torque mini starter, with a fixed mounting plate. When my fancy starter died, that's what I installed. I can't tell any difference in performance.

A couple of weeks ago, my starter started hanging up, and sounded bad during use. I took it over to Advance Auto and swapped it for a new one. For free.

Thanks Bob, I'll speak to owner and probably give it a try as my local Advance has it in stock.
