Transmission Donor????

While I was at a you- pull -it junkyard this Saturday, I noticed a 1998 Outback wagon with a 5spd. It was not the Imprezza based Outback. It had a hyd clutch. Would the trans work with the Imprezza engines that are for the 818? (2002-2007). If so I might go get it for the spares. Thanks for any help from the Subie guys on this. :confused:

Yes, it would work, though it's likely a Phase 1. 98 was a flip year on Subarus, some were Phase 1, some Phase 1.5, some Phase 2.

I have now. If it does not have the 4 bolt center diff plate I should be good to go. Is that correct?

Exactly, though under the car that may be more difficult to discern. so the case halve bolt widths will tell you.

BUT, if you get a Phase 2 housing, it'll bolt to a Phase 1 case, and you're good to go there as well.

So in any case, that trans could work for you.

There is a good chance you would need a different Clutch/Flywheel combo to make that transmission work as well.
