Bit of an update...

Miller Welders has stepped up to the plate and provided some sponsorship for this project. Great thanks to Evan and Miller Electric for this incredible opportunity.

Yesterday, this was the fabulous new arrival at my house.....

A Miller Diversion 180 Tig Welder, 220 or 115V power input, AC/DC output for welding steel or aluminum, automatic gas control, and a lot of little bells and whistles

They included a 150A Tig Torch (not a cheap item!), a foot pedal control, and gas regulator and lines. A lot of tig machines do not include these items.

They also included a really cool manual....see photo below!

And they threw in a bunch of ceriated tungsten electrodes in varying sizes, gas cups, and some consumables.

I also am posting a pic of a portion of my proposal to them, just for giggles.

As you can tell, I'm really really excited about this! Its my first sponsorship and Miller is a big name, so I'm honoured to be working with them on this!

Good luck!
Hope to see you in the Hat one day or next year at the Penticton car show. I have also been practicing with a new tig and plasma cutter.

Finally got a little free time to break out the tig welder and try it.

These are the results of my first time ever holding a torch. I know its inconsistent, but I was messing around with machine settings and amperages, as well as my own feed and speed techniques.

BTW, this is .040 aluminum

looking good Taz. All it takes is practice. Im far from a pro, but I found that spending hours welding every scrap of aluminum to other scraps then a block of scraps you get a good feeling for how the heat moves. My experience is that when you learn to see the heat in the substrate metal based on how the puddle looks you can make good solid welds.

I am looking forward to your project.

No worries!

That chrome paint looks FREAKIN AWESOME!
I'm still in the design phase of my project...the body will be substantially altered from the stock GTM lines.

I'm going to do a one post hijack seeing where your from.
This New England born and raised Yankee can tell you all that the stories about Texas hospitality are true.
I found myself in Austin a couple years back and like the greeting line in the movie "Giant" all I ran into was big smiles and outstretched hands of friendship.
I was made to feel welcome and treated so well and dear lord, the food.
I've got a healthy appetite but those folks make sure no one ever leaves hungry.
Bottom line is I saw just good people that I will never forget.

For a time, I lived in Texas...was even married to a little Texas cowgirl too. I can attest that yes, they can eat down there. EVERYTHING is bigger there. The plates, the steaks, the servings. Dear God....I can eat mind you, but these people made me look like a complete nobody at meal time. My step-daughter, who was 10 or so at the time, had servings as big as mine. No kidding, they can eat!
