I'm getting close to finishing the pre-install of all the parts (minus paint and body work) to get ready for NYS inspection for a VIN, and have a few questions regarding the fit (minor items?):

1 - The body is mounted firmly and everything looks good - but I noticed that the front four mounting bolts after tightening aren't perpendicular to the frame mount (basically the body's weight pushing them down a little). This may be normal, but just want verification of such.

2 - I have the side pipes mount and see they droop down a little going toward the back of the car - I have seen them really straight but most of the time like mine - just wondering if this is normal - and could I raise the tail in the tranny to help bring them up a bit???

3 - Not really a problem, but choosing a color seems to be the biggest problem now - anybody have photos of a silvery grey with McLaren orange stripe??? or close to that. Really want black but most painters are talking me out of it due to the possible ripples in the body work that can pop over time if left in the sun too much????

4 - I'm going to remount the mirror to the windshield, does anyone have a supplier for the slightly larger one that can be mounted that way without any problems?

Love the kit and love the challenge!
Already thinking of either the GTM, or the RCR GT40 (wish FFR make this car-would rather stay with FFR)

Walter,

I'm guessing you have a Mk4, so I can't speak to the front mounts.

As for the side pipes, it's common for them to droop somewhat. That said, you can get a fair amount of adjustment with them - especially if you're using the "J" pipes. My car has the four-into-four headers and I was still able to get about 1/4" - 3/8" adjustment at the end of the pipes by just loosening the side pipe to header bolts and slightly lifting at the exit end of the pipe. That enabled me to get an alignment that looks level to the eye but allows for about 1/8" downward slope to the exit to allow any moisture to drain.

FFR will never make a GT40. That was one of the conditions when they settled with Carroll Shelby and Ford. That is why they developed the GTM.

If you're interested in a GT40, take a close look at CAV. They make a very nice stainless steel mono chassis and fit each body to the chassis prior to shipping.

This answer is for 4-into-4's: Moving the side pipes up and down is pretty easy. Way easier than in/out that requires wedges. Just loosen, move, and re-tighten as Gumball suggested. If that doesn't move them enough, you can change to slightly smaller bolts or just enlarge the holes slightly. It doesn't take much to move them. Don't lift the transmission over this. That will change your pinion angle which may or may not be a good idea.

Regarding the front Q-J mounts, they are under a lot of pressure. The body actually is designed to sit slightly above the hood surround rails, so will press down on the bolts pretty hard. Do you have the self-adhesive foam strips along the hood outline? The body should rest in that material and will help a little.

Can't help with the mirror questions. Good luck choosing a color. I think we all go through this. My Mk3 color changed several times while it was at the painter. Finally made the choice and stuck with it. Black is very cool, but not forgiving for the painter and is high maintenance. It shouldn't pop fillers or whatever underneath. If so, something isn't right.
