After upgrading my engine and getting tired looking for a good and honest tuner in my area I decided to do it myself. The result wasn't that bad considering my limited knowledge of the HP Tuners software. I managed to get 517 WHP and 485WTQ and a decent cruise and part throttle performance. The thing that bordered me the most was that when coming to a stop on a traffic light with the A/C on the car would stumble and die. When that happened it was quite hard to restart without pressing the gas pedal.

I knew there was more power to be gain in the tune and that the cruise and part throttle could really benefit from a tuner with more knowledge than me who could also solve the stumble issue. Because of this and the lack of a local tuner I decided to take the live seminar from thetuningschool.com. These guys really know their stuff and how to teach it. They make the seminar very fun and easy to follow. Most of the seminar was hands on tuning with a couple of cars on their dyno. When I got back home decided to try what I learned ant the tuning school on my car. Went to the dyno yesterday and the results were more than amazing. My WHP went up to 547 and my TQ went up to 498 the car now cruises like any OEM and my A/C is not an issue anymore. I'm really happy with the result and the knowledge gained. To any of you guys who don't have access to a tuner this is a great option to tune your own car and re-tune for future upgrades you make on it. Here is picture of the dyno chart:

Hugo,

Good to hear from you! Seems like you've got the tuning worked out. Nice job.

Are you planning a U.S. tour to practice your new skills on all your friends' GTM's? Kempo's Tuning Inc. ?

That is a great dyno trace Hugo. When I finally get around to putting my car on the road, I am going to need to tune my car for low speed and small throttle opening. Its great on the race track, but Ill need to tune it so that I can run around town smoothly. As I always say, if you want something done right you need to do it yourself. Thanks for the info on the training. Next you can start tuning your motor for a 150 shot of nitrous!!

Hugo,

Outstanding job!

I'll be deep into tuning studies after I finally get it on the road. I purchased a used copy of GM EFI Tuning Beginners Guide DVD and a copy of Greg Banish's Engine Management: Advance Tuning. But there's nothing like having a live person there when you have a question;).

I'm really happy and excited with the results. If you need a tune and you don't have tuner close by let me know I'm willing to go.

Thanks John. I'm not sure I will install the nitrous now. The power to weight is now where I wanted it so I think I won't even try the system.

V,
These guys are awesome at teaching the HP Tuners stuff. The course also includes a 1 year phone support subscription. The best part in your case is that they are about an hour away from you at Odessa Fl. I spent a few days in Orlando after the seminar and wanted to PM you and see if I could take a live peak at your build but ended up visiting family and going to the parks with them and that ate up all my time.

Damn, TQ is peaking at ~5300 RPM, and still making power to 6500! If the valve train can hold 7K, you're going to have some wicked track times!

Time for some spray. Lets see what that puppy can hold.

Gene, I will soon take a video for you. Can't say no to that request from you after seeing all your videos.

Funny you mentioned this Tino. I sent the dyno graph to Martin at Tick performance. He is the one that spec'd my cam and recommended the components for my valve train and head job. This was his replay.

"Nice Hugo!!!
I told you it was a 550/500 combo!!!!!!! Glad she's purring like a kitten now for you!!! That thing doesn't even look done yet! Turn it 7000rpm and let it eat! ;)"

To which I replied:
"I wasn't sure the valve train would hold up to 7K. I will give it a shot then. I'll let you know what it does."
His answer:
"You have a very lightweight intake valve that only weighs 89g from the factory. You have springs that have around 155psi of seat pressure and 405psi of open pressure.
You also have good chromoly push rods and the lobes on your camshaft aren't very aggressive especially the exhaust lobe.
You could turn it 7200-7400 and not have an issue! I promise! Let it eat!!!"

I will try at least 7 or 7100 and see what she does.

Jim, not yet.

With power peaking that high, it would be a sin to shift before 6900-7000.

With the Mendie transaxle, you're always shifting back on a nice part of the curve.
Now you have to find the sweet spots, and get us some hot track times!

Excellent work Hugo, as the old saying goes, if you want it done right, gotta do it yourself!
HP Tuners can be intimidating, as there are so many parameters.
Great job, by the way are you going to SEMA this year?

WOW!!! 7k+ RPMs? That pretty stout. I'd like to hear that.
