After suffering the loss of my first Cobra to a fire caused by a ruptured fuel line, the very next day I ordered a replacement which I am proud to announce has been completed.

This build is virtually identical to my last build, with the major exception that I used an engine builder that understands how to fabricate fuel lines (Engine Factory, Ford 302 with Massflo), and I reworked the dashboard concept to reflect my other passion (I am drummer in a Eagles tribute band (http://eaglemaniaband.wordpress.com/) and a die-hard Stones fan) and the fact that I was with my friend Earl Slick when the fire occurred (Slick has been David Bowie's guitarist since '73, played with John Lennon, the Stones, etc..). Rumor (http://www.glidemagazine.com/22656/earl-slick-in-the-studio-with-david-bowie/) has it that the news of my car fire, in some ways, led to the release of David Bowie's most recent album (most appropriately titled, The Next Day). Therefore, I constructed the dash using parts from Fender Amps - the musicians among you will spot it immediately.

Paint by Ron Randall of Metalmorphous in North Haven, CT. I can not say enough positive things about Ron, his artistry, commitment to perfection, and his being an all around great guy. He is worth every penny and then some. Aside from the magnificent job that he did on the body and finish work, as well as the stunning application of a midnight blue, he found a way to pay homage to the first build which is quite cool and resides inside the trunk lid.

Many thanks to the forum for all of the support.

Your project came out great! Very nice way to put the "old" with the new as sort of a tribute.

Hi Jon,

Glad to see you back in the game! I remember the account of your first Cobra's fire. It gave me chills. When I start my EFI engine now, your experience always comes to mind. At this point I have not upgraded my pump, fuel rails, etc to a high performance level. I want to get a fire suppression system first. Sorry you had to go through what you did but it may help others with similar projects to avoid the disaster. You know, these safety warnings are constantly with us. However, if you see the results in real life, it makes an impression that won't ever go away. That's a fantastic looking replacement! Hope you enjoy many miles of trouble free driving.

Good luck,

WEK.

Congrats on your second build! It looks great! Did you have it inspected yet? Is that the World Trade Center and the Empire State Building in the background?

Congrats on the build. The dash looks nice. Do the radio knobs go to 11?

Hey, that's not a fender, it's the dash.

Looks good.

The Singer Porsche tach goes to 11. Spinal Tap fans.

montyals - yes, I had it inspected before it went for paint. Same deal - I used Joe at Asbury Park, who was a pleasure to work with. He insisted on going over everything on the phone with me ahead of time, even though he remembered my last build. They clearly WANT you to pass. Details of my last NJ Inspection, which was identical to this one and I have nothing to add to, can be found here (http://factory5roadster.wordpress.com/2011/11/04/11-4-11-nj-state-legal/).

All - thank you so much for the compliments.
