Take a very close look at the valve covers for cracks or parts intruding, looks like the radiator got pushed back, and pretty much any hit to the timing belt pulleys indicates a risk of valve damage. Dropped valves = very expensive to fix.

Personally I would only consider buying that with the assumption you're going to need a new motor...but that said it shouldn't be hard to come out ahead w/ all the stuff you'll sell (especially if you part the motor assuming the valves are toast). There's always a chance the motor is fine and you come out way ahead too... I paid $1600 for my donor that I knew (or at least was pretty confident) had bent valves, and I've sold nearly 3k worth of parts off it, including motor parts. I went in thinking I could possibly salvage it if it really only needed new valves, but there was piston contact, and lots of other red flags.

This is what I'm finding to be very common with front crashed Subies:

During time of collision the timing belt broke and engine is not running.

The cam gears get crunched, belt comes off, pistons hit valves and the rest is history...

I bought this 06 NA wagon for 900 plus fees from copart.
22457

Radiator broke timing belt and bent valves.
22458

Taught my son how to do a valve job. parts =$400 Labor= priceless
22459

took 6th place out of 50 novice pax autocrossing and 1st place g-stock this year with that engine in my 07 x-donor.
22460

If you are comfortable with the engine work, I'd do it.

Price is right, even if you end up getting an engine elsewhere.
