Thoughts on tire brand and size for 17x9 and 17x10.5. Street use.
Thanks

Pricey, but I really like Michelin PS2's. I run a 275/40/17 on all four corners. I've got about 360RWHP and I don't have any problems with them on the track.

I like the Nitto 555. I drive in all kinds of weather, even heavy rain and snow. The 555's have proven to be predictable in all situations. They seem to be wearing well, too.

Has anyone considered or are using Goodrich G-Force?

On the 17x10.5 the selection is very limited to:
BFG Drag radial
Nitto NT01
Toyo R888
Kumho XS
Eagle F1
NT05
NT 555
Sumitomo HTR z
Going to a 18x10.5 - 11 adds:
Proxes R888
BFG Rival
PS2
Falken RT 615
P zero Rosso
I listed them in order of my best estimation of dry grip. Those at the top of the grip list are also at the top of the wear list. Let us know what you are leaning toward and we can all give our opinions of that selection. BTW considering my minimal 1000 miles per year I went with the NT01 in a 315/275 setup on 17x 10.5 and 17x9.
BTW the new BFG G force sport only comes in a 17x275....no 315 available.

JC what did your weigh bias end up at? With a 49F/51R empty weigh bias I could never get e 275/275 combo to balance. It always oversteered at the limit.

I've had great luck with Kumho Ecsta XS, both street and track.

I ended up this 47F 53R balance. Turn in to the center of the corner it is neutral. Center to exit I can get some oversteer. I was thinking orginally of getting the 18x10.5 on the rear with a 315 rear tire. I may try that if I get another set of rims for track only tires.

JC it is interesting that you and Karen have both had luck with a 275/275 setup. I never could get it to balance. It was ok on road race style sweepers, but quick transitions were another story. The higher the speed the worse it was. In comparison the new Ferrari F12 has a 46F/54R bias and uses 255/315 setup. I will be on a 275/315 setup next year and will have some feedback then.

Back on topic! I agree with Garry that the Kumho XS is a great tire. The weak points I found during competition is they get pretty hard in the cold and are not up to competition in the rain. They love heat and only got faster as they got hotter...never got greasy even when pushed hard on a 100+ degree day.
