Hi All. I’m a long time lurker, first time writer. My name is Ron, living in Durango, CO, hence the DurangoRon. I ordered an 818 kit last January with delivery scheduled for early April 2014. My donor is a 2006 WRX Turbo. I purchased the donor from a fellow in Denver that had bought the car, broken it down and then decided not to move forward. It worked out for both of us. For me, living in a small community, 190 miles from the closest interstate, I thought the donor part could be the biggest challenge.

I’ve enjoyed reading all the beta builds and feel like I know many of you on a first name basis. For me, the April 2014 date is fine as (1) it has given me a chance to learn from you early buyers and (2) I have been able to finish many of the detail stuff in our newly constructed home here in Durango. (I was the General Contractor).

My wife and I get out to Southern California a half dozen times a year as she has family there. We attended David Hodgkins pre-Huntington Beach party this past April as well as attended the Huntington Beach Show where we met Dave Smith. Like Dave, I am a University of Wisconsin grad.

We are planning on being in SoCal at the end of October, beginning of November. On our way home I was hoping to attend the SEMA Show and see the 818’s. Is there anyone out there that can help me secure a couple tickets? Thanks in advance....

Lastly, we live right off the “Million Dollar Highway”, one the great car or motorcycle rides in the US, going from Durango, to Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway, Telluride, Dolores, Cortez and back to Durango. Lots of great curves, 12,000’ passes, huge drop-offs and incredible views. If you are in the area, give me a shout. We have a guest apartment over the garages....

Hi Ron, I got my 818r two weeks ago. I am also using an 06 WRX as a donor. I am still in the process of deconstructing it. I spent some time in your area 30+ years ago and can attest to the beauty and curves on that particular route. We stopped at the ski area called purgatory and made several trips down the mountain on a one person sled with a center stick and wheel. The harder you pull the faster you go. Never see one of those in California, way too many attorneys. If you get to Northern Cal stop and say hi. Keep me posted on your build. Rick
