Hello Factory 5 Forum:
First off, thanks for all of the information on this forum which helped me to decide to buy my new vehicle.
Here's the story. I first saw a Shelby AC 427 Cobra in a magazine when I was in 4th grade in 1967. Wow, what a car. A Doctor (Dr. Link) in my hometown of Bloomington, Indiana owned two AC Cobras back in the early 1970's, one was a 289 the other a 427. Needless to say, I thought they were awesome cars. No replicas existed back then. Dr. Link's cars were originals.
Back to me now, back in 2002 a guy who owned a local business next to where I worked in Hollywood, MD bought a new Factory 5 Mk II. He showed it to me back then after work one day. He drove it frequently to work. It was well built and I really liked it, I never dreamed I would ever own it.
About 5 years ago, I saw it for sale on a local classified internet site, he didn't sell it. It appeared again for sale about 3 years ago. Again, no sale. About a month ago, I was driving home from work and saw it for sale at this person's new business. I ended up buying it after reading almost every post on this site pertaining to the Roadsters and discussing price with him.
I spoke to my wife about the car prior to the purchase but she doesn't really get it. She is still pissed off at me about the purchase.
The car has a 2002 5.0/302 Ford GT40 fuel injected crate motor, T-5 transmission, Currie 3.73 Trak Loc rear end, Halibrand replica wheels, stainless steel header side pipes, beige leather interior, dark red paint with gold stripes, has about 10,700 miles. The car weighs exactly 2300 lbs with a 1/2 tank of fuel. It has no top and no windshield wipers. I believe it is a Mk II but I'm not exactly sure. The car was originally built in New York.
Anyway, I'm very happy with it! The folks at Factory 5 were helpful with my initial questions. Thanks again.
Photos to follow when I can figure out how to add them.
Later,
Hans
