I'm starting on a new exhaust project, with 2.5" pipe and thrush mufflers. Have to stretch the pipe a bit to slide over the mufflers. Will be about 2" shorter than existing and hopefully be able to tuck into the body recess to avoid cobra bites. I ordered polished pre-bent ss pipe from Summit but it needs a lot of work. Will add a cross-over near the front and a 2-2.5" reducer at the front to connect to the existing headers.

Looks nice Mike...sounds like you have a plan. I think I am going to use what I have to get started but will look to changing things.
Keep us posted.

They call that bent pipe polished? I don't think so. Looks like a great upgrade.

yes, supposedly polished, mandrel marks and all. It will probably take longer to polish than it will to weld. I was feeling pretty good about my progress and then saw the under car exhaust and collector by HCP 65 Racer - now that's cool work

Hey Mike,
Is it still going to be a double side pipe or a single one?
John
looks great mike, they should work out better than the smaller original pipes.

It will be a double pipe - I like the look of the originals on the coupe, so I'm intending to keep the appearance as much as possible. Eventually, I may consider new headers the same diameter however will use the original Hookers for now. The new pipe has double the cross-sectional area. I'm going to use a section of pipe perpendicular in the front to make a small cross-over H, which will support the front as well. Will use a similar rear mount to attach to the car.
My baffles rattle so will try to screw them down. I also had these pipes ceramic coated but they are rusting through. Was expensive but obviously not a great job.
I have noise readings for different configurations and will re-do them with the new pipes to compare, and record a drive-by with both so you can hear the difference.

I like it! An elegant solution - very clean!
