There’s plenty to report on our newest Factory Five. The team continues to follow the development and launch plan closely, and I’m super proud of everyone. While August saw the 818R (race version) join the 818S in production, September recorded the milestone of the first right-hand-drive 818, and production passed the first 50 units. On November 1st, we will have reached our production ramp up goal of 5 cars per week in an effort to reduce lead times.

The team successfully tested the STi 6-speed transmission and qualified the optional Wilwood brakes. SEMA will see the unveil of our new soft top, our right-hand-drive model, and a customer-built 818 with a 6-cylinder Subaru engine (I’m looking forward to hearing that!).

The right-hand-drive 818S entered production in September and is sure to make export customers happy… but Dave can’t figure out how to drive it.

The newest Factory Five continues to earn quite a bit of press, and the track times just keep getting faster and faster. On behalf of everyone at Factory Five, I would like to thank you for your continued support of this exciting new design.

All-New 818 Soft Top Design!

After about a month of design and testing at our partners, Rod Tops in Michigan, the final version of the 818S soft top is ready for our evalutation here in New England. The guys at Rod Tops have designed two previous tops for us – the Mk4 Roadster and the ’33 Hot Rod. Those designs have received rave reviews and are truely weather capable. The 818S soft top design goals were to be a bit more affordable while maintaining the quality and all-weather capabilities of the other Rod Tops designs.

Rod Tops’ Dave Draper sits in the 818S with prototype soft top fitted. We will unveil the final soft top design at SEMA 2013.

Great job by all involved!
I know you've heard it before but THANK YOU!
I'm certainly proud to have 818S #25 in my garage.
Now back to bending brakes lines, which I think is fun.

The top is surprisingly good looking. I had difficulty picturing it before seeing it.

I purchased a STi 6-speed yesterday after I had heard about FFR figuring out how to make it work. Plus it was a deal I couldn't pass up, I said to my wife.

Thank you & Great job Factory Five!

That Big/Tall gas tank in the right hand drive SEMA car looks great. The passenger doesn't have pedals so putting it slightly forward of the drivers seat makes great sense to me.

I hope to get the STI goodies into my 818 someday. This is VERY exciting!

Congrats FFR. I think you have done the very best you could have as far as launching the 818. From the pre and post production showing at SEMA to the track appearances and testing, you have done it all! You haven't done so bad by your supporting partners either. I've been worried from time to time but you have weathered the difficult times rather well. It going to be fun to watch these cars flying out of your factory as time goes by. I don't believe it will be long before it will outsell the roadster (is there a pool yet?). They won't be saying, "is it real?" but "what is it". And then at some point, it will be, " oh yeah, I saw one of those at the track, it's an FFR 818". Pretty exciting stuff!!! Thanks for the ride, WEK.

We'll have some video and more photos of the soft top as we get closer to SEMA. We'll be doing more testing of the soft top here in New England before then.

I am so impressed with this car.

Following it since the design comp has been a fun experience. Even though I live on the other side of the world I will make a way of owning one of these one day.

Amazing work FFR.

My gut feeling is that outside door handles will show up at the same time roll-up windows do. Which may be a while.
