I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how to install driver side windshield bolts. Passenger side is no problem, but how do I get wrenches on the driver side bolts???

Hi David,

I had heard accounts of how much of a PITA it was to do this operation. So I tapped the wind screen supports. I was able to get one hand in and start the bolt. It was still tight getting the wrench/hand in to do it but it was easier than trying to get 2 wrenches and 2 hands in. Good luck, WEK.

Pretty straightforward. Both sides of the bolts on the driver side are accessible from under the dash, and really not that bad. Pass side is actually a little harder. One side from under the dash, the other from under the hood or through the side vent. This is for either a Mk3 or Mk4 Roadster. Am I missing something?

Not a fun task, mind you..but after having done it a few times, it's a process..helps if you have two people. One to fidget the windshield back and forth to get the hole just right, one to contort himself as required to maneuver bolt and nut into position. Driver's side? Remove the seat and lay on your back on the floor with your head just under the dash..
There is a quick release kit out there, can't remember who's making it, and you'll only have to do this once, but it's not cheap.

just like edwardb said. You will also need another person to help you. It's a two man job.

I had the same concern. I took my fuse panel down (just unscrew it) do not take any wires out. Just let it hang down and you can easily access the bolts and nuts from there. Worked like a charm.

A trick I used to make it easier is to replace the locking nuts w/ regular nuts. that way you can finger tighten them just snug and then you only need a couple of turns w/ a wrench. Once you have them tight, just run another nut on by hand and tighten it the final turn w/ a wrench.

I tap the arms 1/2-13 as well. Never had one fail.

I concur with dropping the fuse panel. Not too bad with that out of the way.

Passenger side is a piece of cake if you do it without the splash panel or tire in place and work through the wheelwell. Driver's side takes a little contorting, a box end wrench and ratchet with about a 12" extension and universal joint socket.
