View Full Version : Is this the Coyote tick?

My motor started to do this since I got the O2's connected. It used to quickly go away. Now it stays. It's definitely the drivers side. Pass side seems fine. Once you come off idle you don't notice any noise. Also, can't feel air coming from anywhere so I don't think it's an exhaust leak.

Thoughts?

From what I recall, the Coyote tick turned out to be the idler pulley for a couple different folks. It was a noise from the front of the engine, not exhaust noise. Sorry, no help but just information as I understand it...

I don't think this is the tick... And the noise I had that took a while to figure out initially was the idler pulley, which was fixed when I moved the PS pump and used a different pulley setup. However, I have a similar noise to what is in your video, that I cannot figure out. It sounds quite loud in your video, but am wondering if it is just because you've got your camera so close. I actually thought mine was a line or something knocking due to being loose, but didn't find anything loose. Mine goes away completely when the clutch is all the way in, but doesn't change speed (of the tick) or volume (of the tick) when changing speed at all. Not sure what it is. I was actually starting to wonder if I was just imagining things because no one else was really hearing it... I'll let you know what I find if I can figure it out. Trusting you will do the same! (And agree, this isn't an exhaust leak)

Okay, just went and listened to mine. It's actually quite a different sound. Much quieter, more like you used to hear when as a kid you'd put a baseball card in the spokes of your bike, and about that speed of tick as well (Faster than in your video). Not sure what it is... and YES, I have checked to make sure I don't have a baseball card stuck in the spokes of the roadster. So I guess I'm not going to be much use to you on trying to solve this one.

Posted the vid on a mustang site they all think its an exhaust leak. Not a motor tick. New gaskets on the way but won't have for 3 weeks to install them.
