A lot of the FFR website stuff on the 818 hasn't been updated since it actually entered production. And there were a lot of questions on the final production configurations. The R model is $1K more and I am trying to find out what the real differences are.

What I know - no windscreen (should make it cheaper)
no FIA fuel cell (standard S part)
roll cage (is the production version taller than the prototype so "wookies" can fit? - definate cost adder)

Further questions - did the bar blocking the passenger space get droped or made optional (to allow 2 seat R models)?
Is the body different - lighter fiberglass maybe, or without fuctional doors?
How much weight difference is there between the two with the same basic equipment?

Upgraded Koni shocks for one.

The diagonal bar in the cockpit has been removed and will not be an option. It is a 2 seater. The R is actually heavier because it has a full roll cage.

The doors are not functional on the R

The height of the roll bar is the same

Correct, the fuel cell is not certified, it is up to you to make it compliant with your sanctioning body

The cage is a lot more substantial, look at my build thread for pictures of the frame, there's at least 50 extra welds

The R comes with single tube shocks, which are faster reacting than double tubes

The R comes with an aluminum kirkey seat and cover

And yes the R frame will be heavier, but without the windshield, and factory drivers seat it will be about the same assembled.

gas charged mono tube shocks, single chamber steel tube vs yellow dual chamber shocks

note single tube has 2 pistons, double tube has 1 piston

It seems strange that the R doesn’t have a certified fuel cell. Are the sanctioning body’s requirements that different that one cell wouldn’t be legal for all? Not trying to stir things up it’s just I am not familiar with all the different club rules.

Thanks,

Does the R have standard seat belt mounts or only harness points?

All the roadracing sanctioning bodies require FIA fuel cells. For non racing, HPDE, time trials, etc. the rules vary and a cell is often not required.

Thanks I hadn’t considered non racing events.
