Assuming it might be possible to keep your foot out of the floor for a little while, what kind of MPG's are you getting on a Sunday cruise?
Please include:
Engine Displacement, HP
Trans Type
Carb or injection?

Nuke,

I've got a Windsor stroker, 422". Tremec 5 speed trans, Holley 770 Street Avenger carb, 3.73 rear axle ratio, around 400hp. I've gotten as high as 17.5 mpg on a freeway cruise, more like 10-12 mpg on a spirited drive thru the hills of N.Ga.

331 with Kenne Bell supercharger at 5 psi, T5 and 3.08 rear gears. Cruising at 65 mph and no 'fun' I have seen 22/23 mpg. My normal gas mileage with some spirited driving is 14/15 mpg and if I am really having fun it drops well below 10 mpg.

347 with about 450 HP carbed, T5 and 3.55 rear gear. Gets about 17 on the highway and 9-12 when sticking my foot in it.

I've only just discovered the Daytona while looking for a kit car to build in the future. I'm running LPG in my family car and I'm a convert. I reckon there should be no significant issue for the engine. It is a matter of space for the fuel tanks. Has anyone done or looked into this?

302 30 over, aimed at 325-350hp, T5, 3.73 rear, about 24mpg highway (2200rpm at 65mph (if I can convert correctly), and about 12-15mpg in city since it is hard to get out of 2nd or third

427 cubes, 600+hp, on Sunday cruise I average 18-19mpg. Cheaper to operate than my diesel pick up.

LPG tanks in a Daytona? Makes me think of the Road Warrior.

Well, 347, 750 carb, big heads, big cam, big HP, TKO, 3.73, 70mph @ 2500 N 5th = 12mpg. In town not nearly as good.
Fun factor = OMG

Do not take is the wrong way but who cares anyway. SPM Smiles per mile = 100/gal.

Stock 302 and can not keep my foot out of if for a tank.

5.0 EFI, Trick Flow heads & intake, Stage 1 cam, 24# injectors, T5 w/ .68 5th gear and 3.55 rear end.

Steady 70-75 MPH highway only = 22+ mpg (Just checked it going to LCS and had a high of 25.5!)

Around town with an occasional squirt = ~15 mpg

Track days = ~5-6 mpg but who cares!

I have an 88' hatchback mustang with a stock 86' engine an 2.73 gears. It gets 25 mpg on the highway... A stock 5.0 set up should get better milage in a Coupe... It's lighter and has better aero.

Mine is a pretty close to stock '92 5.0 and driving around I average about 20. I have no doubt I could get well over 25 without trying too hard on the hwy.

Howdy,

I have a Spyder Gt w/ a 414W EFI 500hp, Tremec 5-speed & 3.55 gears. Mileage? Who cares. It's not on the road yet but my daily driver F-150 gets about 15mpg so as long as it's not much lower, I'll be happy.

This is a really interesting thread. Several people have asked why bother about MPG in such a fun car and I can see their point, but in the UK (where I'll be driving most of the time), we passed the $10/gallon point a long time ago. For that reason, I'm researching V8 economy and looking at gearing/weight options. I'm also considering (please don't hate me) engines other than a V8, in particular, V6 or flat 4 options from a European or Japanese manufacturer. This is purely an economical decision based on fuel consumption and part availability. I already run a MG V6 (loads of parts around) and a Jeep diesel (really difficult to get parts, new or second-hand). American V8 remains my preferred option, though.

On the plus side, I have approached the wife with my short-list of kit-cars and the Type 65 Coupe got the most favourable response.

I'd be willing to wager that if you were to take the entire drivetrain (engine, trans, rear axle) from a 2000-2004 4.6 Mustang and drop it into a Coupe without mods it would run close to 30 MPG on the highway, all the while being smooth, civilized and reliable.
